Zainab Qayyum Asks For An Inquiry On Fake Accounts

Fake accounts are not uncommon on social media platforms. A bevy of media cells have sprung up in the recent past which are responsible for promoting a toxic environment on digital spaces such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. With cyber-crime having drastically increased, many public figures and entertainment personalities have fallen prey to endless trolling too. Former supermodel Zainab Qayyum has now spoken up about the same. Talking about how Channo singer Ali Zafar has been subjected to hate and criticism since harassment allegations first surfaced against him, Qayyum urged for an inquiry into the operation of fake accounts.

She wrote, “@cybercrimefia@AsifIqbalccw Sir there’s so much evidence of a hate and smear campaign against @AliZafarsays misusing the honourable #MeToo movement and it’s been two year since he filed a complaint with evidence. Please take action on fake accounts and this propaganda.” Backing her complaint, Dubai-based journalist Mahwash Ajaz tweeted, “Exactly. This is very important because it harms actual victims of abuse, harassment and assault for which these hashtags and criminal laws are there. Doesn’t FIA also have a time limit wherein they have to investigate and decide? Some of these accounts continue to spread wrong information.”

Ajaz also uploaded one of her articles on Twitter titled, “Stop misusing #MeToo: An open letter for everyone on destructive agendas.” She captioned her post, “There IS a gag order on MS. By the court. But it came after she alleged it with the help of those who already wanted to bring Ali down. Do read this.” Her post was appreciated by a user named Ayesha who read the article and eventually apologized for her misunderstanding of the situation earlier. Addressing Ajaz and Qayyum, Ayesha wrote, “I didn’t flee @zainaconda. I wanted to read this in peace it was published yesterday. After reading this I do apologize to @mahwashajaz_and to @AliZafarsays for my wrong comment and take it back. And also I’m not aligned with anyone. Tc.” She added, “Just one suggestion in case you face someone like me without full facts please share the detailed article on the issue. Same suggestion for Zainab ppl might not to update on the case.” Ajaz and Qayyum greatly appreciated and accepted Ayesha’s apology.
