Agar Episode 27: Hooriya’s Schemes Continue While Chandni Rejects A Proposal

“Agar” has always been a show worthwhile, one that has kept viewers engaged despite a natural, more laid-back pace in regard to story.  Never, at any point, has the show come across as sluggish or repetitive.  Sure, “Agar” has had infuriatingly depressing moments which have left viewers exasperated and angry, but the story always seemed to be heading somewhere with each episode.  Unfortunately with episode 27, the show has hit stagnant water.  Of all the episodes so far, episode 27 is by far the least engaging.  Starring Juggan Kazim, Junaid Khan, Hina Altaf, Maheen Siddiqui, Ahmed Randhawa, Ali Abbas, Hina Bayat and others, “Agar” has been written by Madiha Shahid and directed by Ilyas Kashmiri.

In episode 27, Hooriya (Hina Altaf) has had enough of Meheryaar (Ali Abbas) and is determined to think negative of him, regardless of how hard he tries to pacify her.  Meheryaar, on his part, is fed up of Hooriya, but does not want a divorce for more than just one reason.  First, he does not want another divorce on his record and second, he genuinely seems to love Pari and cares for her well-being – more so than Hooriya, her real mother.  Hooriya has reduced Pari to a doll and pawn to use against Meheryaar in arguments and toward “trapping” Shahwaiz (Junaid Khan).  Hooriya does not see the harm she’s causing her own daughter and how she’s influencing her young child with her terrible attitude.  Still, it comes as a huge shock to Meheryaar when Hooriya serves him with divorce papers and an argument erupts after which Hooriya takes Pari and return back home to her family.  In true Hooriya fashion, she blames everyone but herself for her actions and claims that Meheryaar divorced her…..when she served him with papers he hasn’t even signed yet.  Could Hooriya possibly sink so low to attempt to get remarried without securing an actual divorce from Meheryaar first?  Quite honestly, there was sympathy for Hooriya on some level at one point, but as the show progresses, there isn’t any left.  Hooriya has shown negativity towards every relationship in her life, including Farrukh (Usama Khan) – he just catered to her whims and so, in her mind, she loved him.  As a character, she is thoroughly selfish, even towards those who depend on her – like her own child.  Hina Altaf is doing a fabulous job in this role, really making us feel for Hooriya while also despising her.  However, at this point, Hooriya does not deserve a happy  ending.  Meheryaar deserves better – and Ali Abbas has done a good job making Meheryaar appear like a sweet, lovable character while also allowing the audience to see him as a boring, typical sort of man who Hooriya would be unhappy with.  She would never be mature enough to appreciate a man like that.

Meanwhile, the so-called rich proposal from Dubai winds up being a fluke and, just like that, Chandni’s (Maheen Siddiqui) potential wedding is called off.  Shahwaiz has now started to think about Chandni’s future – but in extreme slow motion.  This is where the show is dragging.  Between Hooriya’s drawn-out relationship drama (which we honestly need a break from.  Is it possible to get a Hooriya-free episode next?) and Shahwaiz and Chandni’s slow progression, “Agar” is currently cooling its heels.  What works for “Agar” is that every actor is likable and doing a great job with their respective roles.  Junaid Khan and Maheen Siddiqui play particularly sweet roles where the audience, despite the tragic circumstances of their potential union, finds themselves rooting for their wedding.  The show just needs to move forward now without any more “filler” episodes – which episode 27 certainly is.
