Aitebaar Episode 23: Areeba Shahood Alvi’s Naveen Becomes The Link That Destroys Her Family

No matter how much viewers may be liking a show, its premise or its characters, if a point comes where that same audience can no longer understand the premise of the show, the show runs the risk of losing said viewership.  “Aitebaar” has been a brilliant show up until now, showing how the lack of trust can destroy a relationship and push two once-in-love characters in entirely different directions. Written by Maimona Aziz and directed by Nadeem Siddiqui, “Aitebaar” stars Zarnish Khan, Ali Safina and Syed Jibran in lead roles. While Parisa (Zarnish Khan) is now happily married to Babar (Ali Safina) and the two have been raising Hareem, Hamza (Syed Jibran) has made a reappearance in Pari’s life in the most obnoxious way – married to her sister-in-law, Naveen.  While this initially appeared to be a (convenient) coincidence, the truth ultimately came out that Hamza planned this in order to come close to Parisa again.  Now, at present, Hamza is blackmailing Babar and Pari over Hareem, threatening to take Hareem away, hoping this will put enough pressure on Pari to break off her marriage and reunite with Hamza.

In short, the entire situation has become quite sick, all owing to Hamza’s selfishness and lack of acknowledgement over the grief he put his wife through at a time when she most needed him.  Pari’s entire world was turned upside down due to Hamza’s decision, robbed of her dignity, her marriage, her career….and even a father for her child.  It was Babar who picked Pari up at her lowest and helped her find happiness again.  Why would Pari even consider Hamza for a moment?  As viewers, we are very much hesitant as to the direction in which this is going, particularly with Bilal now trying to “expose” Pari and plant doubts in his mind regarding his marriage.  Ali Safina’s Babar is such a beloved character and both he and Pari deserve happiness, so it would be unfortunate to see their marriage go through any sort of turmoil.  Their relationship has been one to truly root for, showing what a loving and trusting marriage should be – and if it deters from this, it would be a shame.

However, the greatest flaw in all of this show, something that is no longer sitting well, is the character of Naveen.  Naveen has been through her issues and the show discussed Naveen’s personal insecurities and turmoil early on in the show, but nothing can excuse her behavior at present.  Naveen is in love with Hamza, sure.  But Hamza has never loved her.  Adding to this, he has now made it clear that he married her to get close to Pari, his ex.  He is also openly blackmailing her brother and Pari in front of her over custody of Hareem while also cornering Pari under the same roof, declaring his love for her.  Pari, on her part, is making it clear to Naveen that she’s not comfortable with Hamza and has no desire to be anywhere near him.  At this point, Naveen is married to the husband from hell and is willingly staying married to him.  For what reason?  Why would any successful businesswoman with any self respect (which he obviously doesn’t have) remain married to a man who doesn’t even want to be with her and doesn’t want children with her and, basically, has relegated her to a bed warmer?  She has moved out of her family home into a loveless one with this lying stranger who is destroying her family – and for what reason?  There is little to justify this, especially with Babar making it clear that he supports her in every way if she chooses to leave him.  This would be best for all of them…..so Naveen is essentially the cause for this entire family’s turmoil….and it’s just unnecessary.

Adding to all the foolishness is Pari’s family suddenly allowing Hamza back into their lives.  From Pari’s mother to Shiza, this entire family is acting ridiculous and unnecessarily accepting of the man who destroyed their daughter/sister’s life.  Isn’t this a betrayal of the woman who went through hell because of this man?

“Aitebaar” has been a consistently good show, but it would be a shame for the team to destroy it all in the last few episodes with this sort of illogical writing.  Human beings are flawed and make mistakes, but they also hold an inherent sense of loyalty – and at this point, neither Pari’s family nor Babar’s family (his sister) are showing any sort of loyalty…..and all for a man who is a scheming, lying, mistrusting loser.  Please, team “Aitebaar,” do not mess this one up.
