For a man who has worked in over 150 Bollywood films, giving shots on the sets in a single take should have been a cakewalk. But then that was not to be in the case of the Raghava Lawrence directed remake of Kanchana 2 – Laxmmi Bomb. The Khiladi Kumar admits after so many movies in his kitty, the upcoming horror-comedy Laxmmi Bomb was the only film where he gave so many retakes. “It was a very sensitive film. I had to make sure I shot the film without offending any community so I was extra careful. Laxmmi Bomb was a mentally intensive role. The role was an experience I’ve never had before. I took many retakes just to give the perfect shot. Never have I ever given so many retakes in a film till now,” he says honestly.
Laxmmi Bomb also featuring Kiara Advani was scheduled to release in theatres on May 22 during Eid but was postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic, and has taken the OTT route.
The actor who normally works with newcomers was working with a seasoned hand like Raghava Lawrence and in one of those rare moments addresses his director as ‘sir’ as well. “My director Lawrence sir introduced me to a version of me that I didn’t know existed. This character is different to all the characters I have ever portrayed. Even after doing 150 films, I was genuinely excited to be on set every single day, pushing the boundaries, learning more about myself and would like to thank him for it.”
The man who delivered three Rs 200 crore films last year says that Laxmmi Bomb taught him to understand about gender equality. “Be anything you want, but don’t be ignorant. Kindness is key to peace. We should all be kinder and should show empathy and strive for gender equality.”

Akshay Kumar feels that women in sarees are superwomen after donning one in the film. “It was not easy. The first few days, it would come off and the stylists would help between shots. I realised walking in a saree is so difficult. And they go about their life in sarees effortlessly. I feel so overwhelmed at the strength and resilience of our women. Women wear sarees in daily lives. I have seen women climb buses, trains, do chores, dance in sarees. It is an elegant, empowering garment. And it fits all sizes.”
