Ali Zafar is undeniably a renowned name in Pakistan. He is not only popular for his stellar singing and acting performances but also for his social work. The star – who sparked controversy when he was recently conferred with the Pride of Performance Award – has added yet another feather to his talented cap. The artist has now been appointed as the ambassador to the Namal Knowledge City, a centre of academic excellence for the marginalised Pakistani population, living in remote areas of the country. It targets those who have little or no access to basic facilities such as educational institutions. Zafar expressed his happiness on Twitter.

Taking to the micro-blogging site, he wrote on Sunday, “Honoured to be nominated ambassador to the first and biggest knowledge city in Pakistan ‘Namal Knowledge City’ envisioned by the honourable Prime Minister @ImranKhanPTI designed by @tonyashai.”

Zafar elaborated that knowledge plays a vital role in the development of a country and society. On Saturday, PM Imran performed a ground breaking ceremony of Namal Knowledge City phase 1 in Mianwali. During his speech, the premier stressed on the need for affordable and higher quality education opportunities for the talented youth of Pakistan as good education laid the foundation for a more open-minded and accepting society. It was also noted that following the completion of first phase, more than 10,000 students from deprived areas will benefit from the Knowledge City. The project will be environment friendly and will have a state-of-the-art green structure. PM Imran also made a special mention for all donors who have contributed hefty amounts for the project. According to its website, it is the first project of its kind in the country “bringing together knowledge workers from all over the world to constitute one of Pakistan’s largest consortiums to acquire, create, disseminate, and utilize knowledge”.
