Amber Heard accuses Johnny Depp of throwing bottles ‘like grenades’ at her

The ongoing court proceedings between Amber Heard and ex-husband Johnny Depp continue. The court earlier heard that Amber Heard had severed the tip of her former partner’s finger during a violent argument which she has categorically denied. She said that the 57-year-old Pirates of The Caribbean star had thrown bottles at her “like grenades”.

Amber Heard appeared at London’s High Court for a third day running in defence of the publishers of a British daily, who are being sued by Johnny Depp on the account of libel after it termed him a “wife beater” in an article in 2018. The actress has accused her former husband of physical abuse on 14 accounts and was questioned about a particular incident which took place in Australia in March 2015.

Johnny Depp told the court that the tip of his finger was severed during an argument when Amber Heard threw a vodka bottle that hit his hand. “I only threw things to escape Johnny when he was beating me up,” Heard, 34, said. She went on to add that she had taken a bottle from Johnny Depp which he was drinking from and smashed it on the floor, adding that “it snapped something in him” leading him to hurl about 30 bottles at her. “He picked them up and started using them like grenades or bombs…throwing one after another in my direction.”

Johnny Depp’s lawyer however, has argued that Amber Heard’s account of the incident was a complete lie. “No, it’s not,” she replied. “I don’t think he meant to sever the finger, but, yes, he carried on attacking me.” Amber Heard was also accused of stubbing a cigarette out on Johnny Depp’s cheek, which she also denied. “No, Johnny did it right in front of me. He often did things like that,” she said. She later told the court Depp’s body was covered in scars and burns caused by self harm.

Further, in her testimony, Heard has said that Depp threatened to kill her on a number of occasions. She recounted the violence she faced in the form of being slapped, headbutt and throttled. She has also denied accusations that she was making up her account as she went along, such as a claim she made earlier this week that she had been told Depp once pushed his ex-girlfriend Kate Moss downstairs.

The trial is set to conclude next week, although, while taking all evidence into account; no ruling is expected immediately.
