Amna Ilyas talks politics in latest Instagram post

Things in the country’s financial hub are starting to shake up, following the rally held by Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) on Sunday. PMLN supporters were out in their droves to hear what the party leaders had to say and just a day after the rally, former premier Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law, Captain Safdar was arrested from his hotel room in Karachi and also released on bail.

Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaf lawmaker Khurrum Sher Zaman made claims that Captain Safdar was walking on Quaid-e-Azam’s grave while chanting slogans of “vote ko izzat do.” (Respect the vote). He went on to say that the government would not allow anyone to speak against the country nor its founder; Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Pakistanis are known for their patriotism and one celebrity in particular had a lot to say pertaining to yesterday’s rally and the events that followed. Amna Ilyas took to her Instagram and shared a video in which she has a request for the government and urges them to take action against those who disrespect the nation. Amna Ilyas herself has been embroiled in controversy of late after an old interview in which she can be seen making fun of a former model surfaced.

Amna Ilyas has been the voice of reason when it comes to fairness creams and brands using fairness as a standard of beauty. However, when she was called out for body shaming Aaminah Haq, it didn’t go down well with netizens. She was slammed for having double standards and for supporting one cause while blindly turning an eye on another. In today’s post however, the model-turned actor talks all things politics.

While referring to the events of the rally and Captain Safdar walking on the founder’s grave, Amna Ilyas’s disappointment was apparent from the beginning of the video. “There is no longer a difference in politics and the gutter,” she asserted. She then went on to question whether Captain Safdar’s actions were respectful to the founder. “Do these people gather people and do this at their parents’ graves?” she questioned further.

Taking names of Maryam Nawaz and Bilawal Bhutto, she questioned whether these are the people who would lead the country. She further asked if these will be the leaders who throw eggs and tomatoes at political rallies. Amna Ilyas went on to urge the government to take action against these people who could not even respect the founder of the country. “Our government who can not even protect the founder, will not even be able to protect its citizens,” she said.

Further, she urged the government to take steps to ensure these events do not take place again in order to set an example for the rest of the nation. “I urge the government to take some serious action against them. So that in future, be it a normal person or a politician, no one will disrespect the founder. “They have no right to disrespect our founding father,” she further concluded.

Her post was also captioned with a statement making caption. “Mazhar contains the tomb of Fatima Jinnah, Liaquat Ali Khan and the first eight Prime Ministers. How can these politicians be so dumb! This mindless procession is unbelievably disrespectful!” she captioned her post.
