#APSPeshawar: Six Years On, Pakistani Celebrities Look Back At Darkest Day In Country’s History

Today marks six years since the horrific attack at the Army Public School in Peshawar took the lives of over 149 people, including 134 children and school staff members. It was like any other Monday morning at school which was turned into a terrible tragedy in a matter of seconds, when six gunmen entered the educational institution premises and violently targeted young students and teachers with weapons. It was 2014 when the terrorist attack took place and it feels like just yesterday – indeed, it was a day that will be forever etched in our memory. The hashtags #NeverForget and #APSMartyrs have been trending on Twitter since morning, with hundreds of posts making their way to the micro-blogging platform every hour. Pakistani stars have also taken to social media and remembered the families who lost their loved ones on the occasion. Here is what they tweeted:

 

 

 

 

 

Singer-turned-actor Ali Zafar wrote, “Let us never forget this barbaric day when little angels were made target of a malicious agenda. In remembrance. Always and forever.” Recalling the gloomy day, singer Hadiqa Kiani noted it as the day “the whole nation cried”. She continued, “Today marks the darkest day in our nation’s history. The day the whole nation cried, the day the most innocent souls were ripped from our world, the day families were torn apart but today, we take time to pray for those innocent souls, to pray for their families, to pray for the survivors, to pray for our nation’s peace. May Allah grant strength and peace to the families.” She ended her tweet with, “May Allah continue to give the survivors the courage and strength to make our country proud. Actor Humayun Saeed also mourned the loss. He wrote, “16th December – a tragic reminder of invaluable loss in our war against terrorism. Nothing is more important than the safety and well-being of our children. May Allah always protect them all,” he wrote. Bilal Ashraf, Sanam Jung and Ali Rehman Khan shared the hashtags #APSPeshawar, #Neverforget and #APSmartyrs, alongside heartbreaking images of school going children. Prime Minister Imran Khan tweeted, “Today, six years ago, the nation was shocked and grieved by the extreme act of terrorism against children and teachers of APS; and the nation came together with a resolve to take on those responsible. We remain determined & are moving forward in fulfilling this commitment to the nation.”
