Asif Machliwala: Twitter Has Found A Potential Olympic Athlete In This Pakistani Fisherman

Every now and then, internet users catch on to a cool video and make it viral. From chaiwala Arshad Khan being picked for modelling after his images from his family-owned dhaaba went viral to a Pakistani bride’s 100kg lehenga making headlines in June this year to an Indian couple making each other wear masks at their wedding in Covid-19 times, something or the other pops up and fills our social media newsfeeds in a jiffy. This time around was no different. A young Pakistani boy has been spotted by the Twitterati and his talent has left everyone floored! The recently discovered athlete hails from Thatta.

One user on the micro-blogging site was the first to get hold of the video and it didn’t take him long to share it all over! In the clip, Asif Machliwala, who is also a fisherman in his village, can be seen jumping over 11 motorcycles and landing on his feet. Twitter users cannot stop swooning over the video, while also recognizing Asif as a potential Olympics contestant. “Imagine finding him, working on him and preparing him for the Olympics long jump,” Kalim Khan captioned the video in which Asif can be seen sporting a Pakistan flag T-shirt.

Posting the same video on his Twitter account, famous singer Ali Zafar wrote, “Beat this!” In another video uploaded by Faizan Lakhani, Asif can be seen performing a long jump stint over water. It was aptly captioned, “Here’s another jump by talented Asif. His earlier video of jump over 11 motorcycles got everyone’s attention and encouraged AFP to call him. He’s, although, a raw talent but proper training can turn him into a future prospect for Pakistan.”

Lakhani added, “After this video went viral, the Athletics Federation of Pakistan traced and contacted this amazing talent – Asif from Thatta – and invited him for further training.” Actor Fahad Mustafa also shared Asif’s achievement on Twitter. Re-posting Kalim’s video, he posted a Pakistani flag emoji alongside it. A proud Pakistani Mohi Shah wrote, “What a talent this youngster has got for long and triple jump. Indeed, our rural areas are full of talented athletes.” Some questioned the media for not promoting athletes. “If media can find out good actors and models through social media, so why not good athletes?” read a tweet. Shaniera Akram could not contain her excitement either. She wrote, “Wow he’s incredible. It scares me to think how much undiscovered raw talent we are neglecting.” Adding wit to her previous comment, former cricketing legend Wasim Akram’s wife added, “Can we see if this guy is any good at cricket too???”
