Week after week, “Aulaad” is a tear-jerker for its audience. Watching the lead pair, Jalal and Zakiya, enduring grief at the hands of their children is not light-hearted viewing – and yet, it touches the heart and the cast members deliver some great performances. Written by Syed Ameer Ali Shah and directed by Aabis Raza, “Aulaad” stars Mohammad Ahmed, Marina Khan, Hassan Niazi, Sunita Marshal, Nabeel Zuberi, Furqan Qureshi and Humaira Bano. At present, Muskaan has been accused (correctly) by Moni of stealing Roshna’s wedding jewelery, causing Muskaan to leave the house – which is now in her name.
Episode 13 of “Aulaad” begins with a downtrodden household after the run-in with Muskaan. Muskaan refuses to admit to having stolen Roshna’s wedding set and Bilal (Nabeel Zuberi), the worst son on earth, continues to protect and fight for his wife. Of course, Muskaan and her mother are manipulating the situation to get Bilal’s family out of “Muskaan’s” house, even though they really did steal that set. When Bilal confronts his parents in an aggressive manner, accusing them of blaming his “innocent” wife, Adnan (Furqan Qureshi) bursts in anger and attacks Bilal – something which he deserves. Unfortunately, Roshna’s (Minsa Malik) in-laws to be walk into the house at that moment and not only see the two brothers fighting, but also Jalal (Mohammad Ahmed) injured on the floor because of it. Seeing this spectacle, Roshna’s wedding is called off. This is a tragic turn of events, but putting one in the place of Roshna’s in-laws, can they be blamed for being skeptical of the family after what they witnessed?
The most beautiful sequence in this episode is a moment the morning after Roshna’s wedding is broken off. Roshna, unwilling to see her aging parents unhappy, walks into their room with breakfast for the three of them, plus Moni. Just watching this group of four together brings tears to the eyes, emphasizing the saying that daughters are more loving than sons – and in Jalal and Zakiya’s case, this is true. Both Roshna and Moni are all-heart, full of love and devotion to their parents. To be fair, Adnan also falls under this category of the “good” child, as he’s very loyal and has his parents protection at the forefront of his thoughts – which is also why he wants to go to Dubai. It’s not as though he wants to abandon his parents, something which he makes very clear, but rather that he wants to build his career to be financially stable so that he can care for and provide for his wife, son, sisters and parents without having to rely on his other siblings. While it may be difficult for Jalal and Zakiya to understand this at the moment, if they were to think long-term, they would understand him more. Unfortunately, that has always been their problem – they are incapable of thinking long-term. When signing the house over in Muskaan’s name and giving Jalal’s pension to Adnan and Khurram, they did not think about their other two daughters or themselves. Now they are stuck and have left three of their children stuck as well due to their actions.

Mohammad Ahmed and Marina Khan act well as usual, but it’s Minsa Malik who steals the show this week as Roshna. This character is one viewers genuinely feel for and hope for her happiness, she is such a selfless character who puts everyone else before herself – namely her parents and sister. Minsa Malik is a talented new actress and she has a lot of potential. Overall, “Aulaad” is a show that continues to pile misery upon misery and next week, it appears the family will be evicted from their home by Bilal and Muskaan after Adnan leaves for Dubai with his family. Is there any happiness in sight for this family? While the show is heavy, there is an allure to it that continues to bring viewers back each week.
