Saying “Aulaad” is a difficult watch would be an understatement. We all have families and if our own parents aside, we are well aware that one day, our children will move on to have lives of their own as well. This is why the theme of “Aulaad” is so hard-hitting, because the audience can all see either their own parents in this situation or themselves – and that’s a nightmare. Written by Syed Ameer Ali Shah and directed by Aabis Raza, “Aulaad” stars Mohammad Ahmed, Marina Khan, Hassan Niazi, Sunita Marshal, Nabeel Zuberi, Furqan Qureshi and Humaira Bano.
In episode 16, Roshna (Minsa Malik) runs into her ex-fiance on the road while coming home from university and he gives her and her friends a lift home, helping them out of a tough situation. He also takes this moment to apologize to Roshna and explains that the breakup wasn’t his decision. Roshna is hurt, but she puts on a brave face and thanks the man for his help. The meeting is as simple as that, but Muskaan spots Roshna leaving his car outside the front gate and creates a ruckus in front of both Zakiya (Marina Khan) and Bilal, accusing Roshna of lying about her whereabouts. At this point, the audience is already wondering why Muskaan has any say in what Roshna does to begin with? Who gave Muskaan and Bilal the authority to dictate Muskaan’s life? Roshna is Bilal’s elder sister, so why would Bilal have the audacity to slap his elder sister before even hearing her out? Muskaan is a rotten character, sure, but Bilal has gone on to be potentially the most despicable character currently on television. He’s worse than a vamp!
On the other end, Jalal (Mohammad Ahmed) has taken a job giving tuitions to a 2nd grader. In Lahore, Jalal has an unexpected chance encounter when Adnan (Furqan Qureshi) spots him on the street and emerges from his car. This is, quite honestly, the shocker of the episode. Up until now, Adnan has been the golden boy of the terrible trio of sons, the one son who genuinely seemed to care about the well-being of his parents. And yet, Adnan has been incredibly dishonest about his life. It is revealed that Adnan never moved with his family to Dubai, rather they moved to Lahore, where Adnan now has his own successful business, a car and his own flat. Of course, Farwa brags about how Adnan used his “hissa” (share) of his inheritance (from Jalal) to buy this flat, rubbing salt in Jalal’s wounds, a man who didn’t get any “hissa” of his own life earnings. Jalal is shocked and rightfully so. Not only has he discovered Adnan and Farwa’s lie, but Farwa gives him an earful, robbing him of any right to be upset. This time, Jalal has the full support of the audience as he storms out of Adnan’s home, leaving Adnan to chase after him with empty apologies. Of course, one can see Adnan upset over hurting his family, scolding his wife and crying alone later, but does that absolve him of his wrongdoings? Absolutely not. Adnan’s fall from grace is the most shocking part of this episode, only because neither Jalal nor the audience expected this from such a character.
Qudsia Ali is a phenomenal actress and is becoming one of the most lovable parts of “Aulaad” as Moni – but this episode heavily foreshadows tragedy befalling Moni as Zakiya is seen asking God to protect her loving, innocent daughter. Unfortunately, Muskaan cannot let anyone remain happy in this household. After Moni finds out about Muskaan’s pregnancy, she is overjoyed and begins making plans, dreaming of playing with the baby. However, Muskaan has a plan in mind to rid herself of Moni once and for all. She begins filling Moni’s head, riling her up, by saying she wouldn’t ever let her near the baby, because she’s crazy and she wouldn’t want a crazy person near her child. This is heartbreaking to see, watching Moni’s reaction as she hears Muskaan’s words and sees her own dreams slipping away.

Mohammad Ahmed, Furqan Qureshi and Qudsia Ali are the star performers in this episode. While Qudsia Ali makes Moni especially lovable, Furqan Qureshi and Mohammad Ahmed are great as the father-son duo face off in an emotional scene. In the next episode, it’s seen that Moni will attack Muskaan after this riling up, pushing Bilal to make the “decision” (again, who put this brainless man in charge?) to put Moni in an institution. With more tragedy headed this family’s way, when will things take a turn for happiness?
