“Aulaad” appears to have moved to Monday nights, originally airing on Tuesday nights, now filling up the space left by “Prem Gali.” “Aulaad” gears up for an emotional ride this week as Moni’s fate is left up in the air after she attacks Muskaan. Written by Syed Ameer Ali Shah and directed by Aabis Raza, “Aulaad” stars Mohammad Ahmed, Marina Khan, Hassan Niazi, Sunita Marshal, Nabeel Zuberi, Furqan Qureshi and Humaira Bano.
Episode 17 of “Aulaad” is a rather heavy one, one that leaves its audience fuming over the fate of one of the show’s most beloved characters, Moni (Qudsia Ali). Moni is a very innocent character, differently abled and one who only acts out when provoked. It’s no surprise then when Moni falls victim to Muskaan’s intentional badgering as she provokes her by calling her crazy, saying she won’t let Moni touch the baby and calling both Moni and her mother names. Moni reacts in anger, chasing after Muskaan down the stairs, only to be intercepted by Bilal (Nabeel Zuberi). While the chaos is being dealt with outside, Zakiya (Marina Khan) sends Moni away, but she comes back with a knife. Of course, this sets off the alarms and a family meeting is called with Muskaan’s trouble-making mother called, along with Khurram (Hassan Niazi) and Afreen (Sunita Marshall).
It’s rare that one would side with Khurram and call him the voice of reason, but for much of the episode, he serves as exactly that. Khurram doesn’t waste any time making sure Zakiya recognizes that the difficulty they are in is because they signed their home over to Muskaan. Not only did they sign away their voice with that decision, but also Khurram’s. Still, Khurram stands up against Bilal when Bilal begins disrespecting Zakiya and the two engage in a battle of words. While viewers are cheering on Khurram up until this point, even Khurram is unable to take responsibility for Moni…..and so, Moni is checked into a facility, literally dragged by the arm into the van by Bilal. Bilal also knocks Zakiya to the ground, leaving Roshna, Afreen and Khurram to tend to her.

In this entire scenario, Jalal (Mohammad Ahmed) is seen in Lahore, mourning after spotting Adnan (Furqan Qureshi) in the city and discovering his secret. Unfortunately, Jalal has a lot more misery awaiting him when he realizes his beloved daughter has been sent to an institution without his knowledge. This episode is an emotional one overall, the dominating emotion being anger directed towards Bilal, Muskaan and Muskaan’s devil mother. This terrible trio has all of the bad wishes of the audience, hoping they befall a terrible end in the end, alone and begging for happiness. Does that sound cruel? Yes, it’s cruel, but so is sending your sister to an asylum after your criminal-minded wife purposely provokes her into attacking just so she can play out this scene. These actions are unforgivable and more unforgivable is how Bilal treats his entire family, those who have spent their entire life with him, for his unreasonable, illogical, mean-spirited wife. The best performances in this episode come from Marina Khan as Zakiya, Minsa Malik as Roshna and Hassan Niazi as Khurram. This trio does an excellent job of portraying the emotions of their characters and depicting the turmoil they are going through. It’s not clear how this show will end, but it’s clear that Jalal and Zakiya have a lot more misery in store before things get better.
