“Aulaad” is a hit with Pakistani audiences already, drama fans praising the content of this show. A show based on the hardship parents face at the hands of their children, it’s clear that a large section of Pakistani drama viewers love to be drawn into emotional storylines. Written by Syed Ameer Ali Shah and directed by Aabis Raza, “Aulaad” stars Mohammad Ahmed, Marina Khan, Hassan Niazi, Sunita Marshal, Nabeel Zuberi, Furqan Qureshi and Humaira Bano in prominent roles.
Episode 3 of “Aulaad” is a one-track episode with Khurram (Hassan Niazi) and Afreen (Sunita Marshal) missing completely. This episode revolves entirely around Bilal (Nabeel Zuberi) and his desire to marry his cousin, Muskaan – which is not a particularly enjoyable storyline. In fact, it’s downright maddening and infuriating. It’s wonderful when a man stands up for the woman he loves and puts in effort to bring his parents over to his side for the sake of that woman. However, true to the theme of the story, is it not the job of a son to also recognize when the woman he loves may be stepping out of line and demanding something that would be wrong for/towards his parents? This is where Bilal becomes an entirely unlikable character. Bilal’s parents are shocked when he tells them he wants to marry Muskaan, not because they dislike the girl, but because this relationship comes with a condition – the parents will have to put their family house, the house in which their entirely family lives, in Muskaan’s name. Of course, hearing this, both parents refuse, saying marriages cannot begin with conditions. This sends Bilal into a fit of rage and “badtameezi,” which forces the parents to reconsider. They head to Muskaan’s house the next day and are met with the same demand, much to Adnan’s (Furqan Qureshi) horror. He gets into a fight with Muskaan’s mother and the family leaves from their house angry.
It’s difficult to watch this episode, because it’s a train wreck waiting to happen. The parents are coming around, ready to agree to this condition for Bilal’s happiness. But the father (Mohammad Ahmed) has worked his entirely life to build this home for himself and his wife (Marina Khan). While it’s true that parents build homes for their families, they also need security for themselves. They also have five children, not only one, and this thought is definitely on Adnan’s mind, which is what causes his outburst. Not only is it unfair of Muskaan’s mother to even make this demand, but even if the parents wanted to sign their home over to their children, they have five children, not only one! Why would they put the house in the name of one son’s wife? Of course, they most likely will end up doing exactly that, but the decision is horribly foolish and will be detrimental to their financial security in the future. Muskaan does not seem any better of a person than her mother is.
Aulaad Episode 3: Mohammad Ahmed and Marina Khan Are the Stars of the Show
The star performer this week is actually Furqan Qureshi, who stands out as Adnan in the latter part of the episode. Overall, episode 3 is not a great episode, but it serves to set off warning bells in the minds of viewers, who are now mentally prepared to see this old couple face many hardships at the hands of their children. It’s unfortunate that Bilal has turned out to be so selfish and cannot look past his “love” and see how unfair this demand is.
