Aye Musht E Khaak Episode 33: Feroze Khan Excels As Mustajab’s World Is Turned Upside Down

”Aye Musht E Khaak” appears to be nearing its finale point, though it isn’t entirely clear when the finale will be.  The story seems to be at an ending point with only 1-2 episodes remaining.  Starring Feroze Khan, Sana Javed, Asad Siddiqui, Iffat Omer, Shahood Alvi and others, the story has been written by Maha Malik and directed by Aehsun Talish.  Since the start, “Aye Musht E Khaak” has divided fans, though all could agree that the treatment has been over the top in nature.  Still, it’s the content that has made “Aye Musht E Khaak” a winner, a story that touches upon religious differences between spouses and how that can impact relationships and life moving forward.

In episode 33, Mustajab (Feroze Khan) arrives at Duaa’s (Sana Javed) party and is greeted warmly, the family determined to reunite the lovebirds once again.  However, Mustajab meets Duaa to confess his lies, while also declaring that he’s a changed man – and is leaving her for her own good.  Mustajab’s confession is heartfelt and this scene truly makes a mark, particularly when Dayaan (Asad Siddiqui) continues to vouch for Mustajab and encourages Duaa to stop him.  Duaa, on her part, does not doubt Mustajab for a moment, choosing rather to understand why he wants to leave and allows him the space to make a decision for himself.  This is the kind of understanding we have wanted from Duaa and Dayaan all along, a loss of self-righteousness and an understanding that different individuals grapple with religion in different ways.  In this scene, we finally get it – and it’s tear-inducing with sadness all around.  Sana Javed performs wonderfully here as a girl who is trying to be understanding while also fighting her grief internally.

Unfortunately, Mustajab’s misery does not end here as he arrives back home to find Shakeela (Iffat Omer) dead, right when he planned to devote his life to being a good son to her.  Again, this is another moment that hammers home the idea in Mustajab’s mind that he desperately needs a fresh start and the space to grow closer to God, encouraging Duaa to move on and live her life happily without giving him much thought.  While his choices to portray Mustajab in a more flamboyant manner has been a matter of discussion since the start of the show, Feroze Khan’s capabilities as an actor have never been in question.  However, in this episode, Feroze Khan’s performance is undeniably incredible.

At the end of the episode, we find out, through Tabeen, that Mustajab has sold his family home and moved to the USA permanently, leaving a distraught Duaa behind.  What’s interesting about this show is how well the redemption arc has come into play.  When “Aye Musht E Khaak” was in its early to mid-stages, viewers could not imagine ever rooting for Duaa and Mustajab to reunite.  However, with Mustajab’s deep guilt, his remorse and desire to change himself post Duaa’s second chance at life, there’s now a strong desire to see these two reunited.  Mustajab is no longer thinking about himself, no longer the narcissistic man we’ve seen throughout. He has “fallen” and has picked himself up as a changed man.  It would be tragic if, after all this change, both Mustajab and Duaa do not get their happy ending.  We’re keeping our fingers crossed!
