Azmaish Episode 11 & 12: Yashma Gill Is the Star of the Show

“Azmaish” is the story of how lack of discipline from parents can lead to serious repercussions in the form of their own children. “Azmaish” stars Kinza Hashmi, Fahad Sheikh, Yashma Gill, Minsa Malik, Shahood Alvi, Laila Wasti, Furqan Qureshi, Gul E Rana and others in prominent roles. The story has been written by Sameena Aijaz and directed by Fajr Raza. This is a show with several badly behaved characters and how their actions wind up affecting the happiness of those around them.

Episodes 11 and 12 center around a situation created by Shiza (Yashma Gill), a horribly selfish, self-centered, narcissistic young woman who does not understand how to differentiate right from wrong. It’s a wonder how she won the love of Rafay, a man who is clearly a good human being. Shiza has put down demand upon demand in regards to their upcoming wedding, but the final straw is when she demands her own house and asks to be kept away from her “interfering” in laws. Rafay has had enough and takes her demand to her parents, breaking off the marriage four days before the event. Tufail, in his grief, asks his own sister (Gul E Rana) to have her son, Rohan (Furqan Qureshi), marry Shiza – but when she flat-out refuses, he has a heart attack and winds up in the hospital. Ultimately, he asks Basit (Fahad Sheikh) to step in and “save his izzat” by marrying Shiza while in the hospital.

Many dramas make me question the state of parenting and the mental health of people who bring children into this world, but are unable to understand how they should be raised. “Azmaish” falls into this category, Shahood Alvi’s Tufail has mistreated his own wife (Laila Wasti) and Nimra (Kinza Hashmi) all along for the sake of his absolutely insane daughters, Shiza and Samreen (Minsa Malik). If he had spent less time antagonizing his wife and stepdaughter and allowing his wife to discipline his terrible children, his “izzat” wouldn’t be on the line. Instead, he has put down his kind-hearted wife and well-behaved, intelligent stepdaughter for the sake of these rotten girls. So why then is it the fault of everyone else when Shiza takes this step? Tufail is responsible and, to an extent, even his wife is responsible for taking his nonsense for so long and neglecting her own daughter for the sake of his children without any appreciation or respect. Why is it his sister’s job to fix his life? Why is it Rohan’s responsibility to step up and marry Shiza when Shiza is the one who created this problem? Why is it Basit’s problem to step up and marry a girl whose engagement broke off because she was selfish? Does any man deserve to marry Shiza? The answer is no. Why then does Tufail believe he can keep making these demands to fix his “izzat” instead of disciplining his daughter? Basit is so deeply in love with Nimra and of course, he will be expected to sacrifice his love for Shiza due to Tufail’s desperate please and his own insane Bhabi’s desires.

Yashma Gill deserves a round of applause for her performance. She is incredible as Shiza, who is as unlikable a character as possible – and yet, she owns each and every scene she is in. If “Azmaish” is the story of anything meaningful, it’s the story of bad parenting.
