Bandhay Ek Dour Se Episode 4: Roshni Has A Change of Heart

“Bandhay Ek Dour Se” continues to be a fun, entertaining watch despite the storyline beginning to move in a more intense direction. The characters in this show have layers and personalities and do not feel like they’re being written into a corner. No one is “evil” here or too “sweet,” but they do have different shades to their personalities. Ahsan Khan, Ushna Shah and Hina Altaf carry this episode on their shoulders as it revolves around this trio. Roshni (Hina Altaf) is a girl that exists in our world and many of us know such girls. She isn’t “evil” at heart, but is someone who is self-centered and is always looking out for herself. “Matlabi” is a word that would best describe her, someone who is always trying to find the best for herself and it does not matter who she tramples on in order to get there. In this case, Roshni is trampling on Omer (Ahsan Khan) and Maheen (Ushna Shah). It’s clear that in the friendship between Maheen and Roshni, Maheen is the more loyal friend and has always looked out for what’s in the best interest of Roshni and Omer. Maheen is kind-hearted and has allowed herself to be put in this position of being the middle-man because she loves both Omer and Roshni and wants to see them happy together.

Unfortunately for Maheen, she is about to be put in an awkward place. In episode 4, Roshni is seen growing closer to her cousin Nabeel (Ali Ansari), who is visiting from out of town. She is immediately taken by his appearance, his way of carrying himself and his maturity, believing he’s a good prospect. In comparison, she’s disappointed by Omer and what she sees as his failed promises. Believing Nabeel to be a better option, she goes all out to impress him and ignores Omer in the process. None of this is lost on Maheen who is growing uncomfortable with Roshni’s growing interest in Nabeel and feels her friend slipping away from Omer. She tries to convince Omer to step in and reclaim his space (as Roshni has sworn not to speak to him until he sends a proposal), but Omer believes in Roshni and her love. However, it’s not clear whether Roshni’s actions will backfire on her, because Nabeel hasn’t actually said anything clearly that shows he’s interested in Roshni. He may simply see her as a friend and is being friendly – and this could potentially get Roshni caught in a mess of her own creation.

While Ahsan Khan has been the star performer in the past few episodes, this episode belongs to Ushna Shah with her subdued yet sincere performance as Maheen. She is a realistic character that does not feel too nice or naïve. She’s a good girl, but she understands the nature of her friend and what is happening. Of course, it also must be said that Ushna looks beautiful. The supporting cast isn’t seen as much this time around as the family takes a backseat in this episode. At present, Maheen is receiving phone calls from a mysterious number and these calls began after Roshni took Maheen’s phone, so of course, Maheen suspects Roshni for more than just disloyalty towards Omer. In the preview for the next episode, it’s clear that Roshni will not be present for Maheen’s wedding – and will this mysterious caller somehow be the cause of a misunderstanding during Maheen’s wedding? This does seem to be where the story is heading and it will be interesting to see how these relationships are affected in the process.
