Bathrobe Vs Sock Curls: Tick Tok hair trends to try out for those 90s supermodel locks

Don’t be ashamed to raise your hand if you are one of those Tik Tok-inspired girls who has tried out almost every hack since the coronavirus outbreak. And we’ve specifically mentioned Covid-19 because while the pandemic has forced everyone to stay indoors, one good thing has come out of it – more free time on our hands and the willingness to experiment with new trends. From the Freezing Cereal fad on the video-sharing app to the Tik Tok Dance Challenges, the platform has become popular across all age groups. But the two trends that have left us floored and we finally caught onto them after a few practice sessions in front of the mirror (LOL) have to be the hair-styling ones: Bathrobe Curls and Sock Curls.

So girls, we have a serious question for you! Don’t you all want to avoid direct heat to your scalp by chucking away all the expensive appliances you own and looking towards more hair-friendly options? Worry not, this does not mean that you will not have perfectly styled tresses when you leave home for a dinner party but we have just found a better alternative for you. While it may seem like an overly time-consuming and draining task, it will seem like a piece of cake once you get the hang of it. Trust us, we’ve been there too.

Let’s start with Bathrobe Curls. As its name suggests, these locks can be formed with the help of a robe belt. To begin with, place a the belt on the top of your head, letting it fall to each side. You then divide your hair into two sections and wrap it around the robe belt. You then go around in circles, gathering more hair as you go and repeat the process until you get to the end, eventually tying it in a ponytail. Once you have finished wrapping your hair, sleep on it overnight. The next morning, untie the belt and you will see perfectly done curls, which will surely last you two to three days. If you do not possess a bathrobe, you really do not need to go through the trouble of stepping outdoors or ordering one online. Instead, you can simply try out the Sock Curls hack, which does the job equally well. Celebrities and fashion bloggers world over have been posting their demonstration of the Tik Tok trend and it has won hearts everywhere. Celebrity hairstylist Justine Marjan is one example. She recently tried it out and shared a video of the same on her Instagram feed. Needless to say, the results were phenomenal! In the short video, Justine can be seen wrapping large sections of her damp hair (which is the key to get smooth curls) around the socks, while tying them with ponytails and letting each section dry overnight. When she opens her hair the next morning, the result is nothing short of a visual treat – luscious and voluminous, truly a sight for sore eyes. Justine suggests using a pair of stockings if you do not have socks available at home. And if you don’t own those either, she has a backup plan for you. Pull out a silk scarf from your wardrobe and that could work wonders too! However, Justine insists on starting with semi-damp hair and a styling product to achieve the look. If you have curly hair, you can use a leave-in conditioner, mousse or curling cream right at the beginning of the entire process. Both Bathroom and Sock Curls may take time getting used to but they’re worth the effort!
