Bikhray Moti Episode 24: Waseem Abbas and Shaista Jabeen Make Their Presence Felt

“Bikhray Moti” stars Neelam Muneer, Wahaj Ali, Yasir Nawaz and Samina Ahmed in prominent roles, has been written by Edison Idrees Maseeh and directed by Shahid Shafaat. As “Bikhray Moti” nears its conclusion, it’s impressive to see the growth the characters have gone through since the beginning of the show. Whether it be the children, Ayeza, Ahad, Zulfi or even Gulzar and Shehnaaz, each character has gone through their share of trials and tribulations during the course of the show and have changed from when viewers were first introduced to them. In this episode though, two transformations in particular are highlighted.

Episode 24 begins with a strong scene between Ayeza (Neelam Muneer) and Gulzar (Waseem Abbas). As Gulzar realizes the rammifications of his actions over the years towards his daughters and wife, pouring his heart out to Ayeza over being rejected by Shehnaaz (Shaista Jabeen), Ayeza is overcome with sympathy and love for her father. Ayeza and Gulzar have never shared a healthy relationship, but it’s true that the love of a daughter is one of the purest relationships and Ayeza puts this on full display as she consoles her repenting father. Gulzar has finally come to realize how badly he treated his family and apologizes wholeheartedly and Ayeza kindly makes him realize the importance of a loving, supportive father in a daughter’s life. There’s something not only very meaningful about this scene, but it has also been presented realistically. Later, Gulzar and Shehnaaz have a very meaningful conversation about their marriage over the years and their inability to stop caring for each other – and while the viewer silently roots for the two to get back together, Shehnaaz has been written as a quiet winner, a woman that has endured a lot over the years, but left on her own terms…and now comes back on her own terms. Shaista Jabeen and Waseem Abbas make a strong mark as Shehnaaz and Gulzar.

Back in Hyderabad, Tufail calls Zulfi (Yasir Nawaz) and Ayeza to check the status of Shamsa’s (Samina Ahmed) arrival, but is shocked when he discovers Shamsa never arrived. After checking in with the bus station, he sends Zulfi to Edhi Center and the family is distraught when it’s revealed that Shamsa has passed away. It’s difficult to grieve for a character like Shamsa, a woman who was despicable in her behavior – but a child does tend to love their parents and Zulfi and Tufail are no different. Tufail arrives in Karachi, angry that Zulfi buried their mother without his involvement. Zulfi has had enough of Tufail and, between his treatment of Jaanu and now his mother, Zulfi explodes in anger and the two brothers end up in a fist-fight. This is a powerful scene for Zulfi, a scene that truly shows how much Zulfi has come as an individual. When the show began, he was a druggie, a man who beat his wife and mistreated his children. Cut to present day and Zulfi is a man who will fight his own brother for speaking ill against his wife and stands in protection for his family. When the show was in its initial stages, it was difficult to imagine ever rooting for Zulfi, a man who seemed rotten to his core. But he has managed to mend his ways and change himself as a human being – and he has become a very much lovable character. Of course Neelam Muneer has carried the show on her shoulders and Ayeza has come to life with her performance as the strong, confident, unbending young woman.

Unfortunately for Zulfi’s children, it does seem that Zulfi’s days are numbered as we’ve seen him vomiting blood. Will Zulfi’s illness make way for Ahad (Wahaj Ali) to re-enter Ayeza’s life? Ahad is the dedicated partner Ayeza always deserved. And while Zulfi has molded himself into a person Ayeza can now respect, doesn’t Ayeza deserve her share of happiness with a man who has always accepted her for who she is? It’s difficult to imagine a perfect ending for “Bikhray Moti,” but with the last episode airing next week, all eyes will be on the finale.
