“Bikhray Moti,” starring Neelam Muneer, Wahaj Ali and Yasir Nawaz in the lead roles, tells a tale of the troubles faced by lower-income families. While Ayeza (Neelam Muneer) works towards an education and has support in Ahad (Wahaj Ali), she struggles to protect her sister, Faiza’s (Nausheen Shah) children from their circumstances after her sister passes away. Yasir Nawaz plays Zulfi, a drunk, gambling and neglectful father who leaves family matters in the hands of his domineering, crooked mother (Samina Ahmed). At present, the children are suffering as Jaanu is sent with his Taaya to work in his shop and Shehzaadi is hired to work as domestic help.
Much of episode 8 focuses, again, on Ahad and Ayeza’s marriage. Wahaj Ali’s Ahad is such an endearing character, one wishes men like this were portrayed more often on our screens. While Ahad lives under the roof of his parents, he is determined to finish his education and give Ayeza the home she deserves. When he realizes his father and Ayeza’s father are against their marriage, he asks Ayeza to elope with him, even promising to care for the kids after their marriage. His intentions are pure and Wahaj Ali shines. While Ayeza finds herself caught between love and responsibility, her mother encourages her to take this step, but her husband overhears them. This creates chaos that’s furthered when her father overhears the conversation and angrily declares that Ayeza will marry Zulfi and take care of the kids. He phones Zulfi’s brother (the Taaya) and the two discuss this potential alliance happily.

Jaanu’s Taaya has an interesting reaction at one point and he is a character that’s becoming more difficult to assess. Jaanu gets in trouble at home when his Taayi accuses him of stealing chocolate (which was given to him by a pedophile in the last episode). When Jaanu cries to his Taaya about it, his Taaya consoles him, but tells Jaanu he should’ve told this to his Taayi – while also being overcome with a strange expression after hearing a man gave Jaanu chocolate. Was this an expression of concern and worry? In this case, maybe he isn’t as bad as he seems. As a viewer, I hope and cling on to this little window of care and protection, because the alternative is terrifying. Jaanu’s Taaya continues to push off ideas of enrolling Jaanu in school, so his future is already beginning to look grim. Shehzaadi has fallen ill, so she, thankfully, is seen resting in this episode, but talk has begun to arise of her marriage – and she is a minor. Again, these child actors are incredibly talented and really make the viewer feel their grief!

Neelam Muneer is playing her part well and is believable as Ayeza. One can understand her dilemma, wanting to move away from her home situation and into a better one – and yet, she’s held back by her promise to Faiza to care for her kids. Inner turmoil is always hard to display effectively and Neelam Muneer is doing a great job allowing viewers to see the different aspects of this character. While the show has lost steam in the last episode with all the focus on Ayeza’s relationship, it seems set to zoom ahead next week when Ayeza is faced with the dilemma of choosing her love (Ahad) or obligation (Zulfi).
