Bisaat Episode 24: The Shock Value Of This Plotline Cannot Keep This Story Afloat

“Bisaat” cannot, by any means, be called a hit drama.  Rather, this is a drama that, despite having a great cast, has gone mostly neglected by viewers.  Starring Azfar Rehman, Ayesha Omer, Anmol Baloch, Mirza Zain Baig, Sharmeen Ali, Syeda Tooba, Saba Hameed and others, the story has been written by Ateeq Inayat while the show has been directed by Fahim Burney.  “Bisaat” did pick up viewership towards the beginning of its run due to shock value once viewers realized where the show was headed – with Azfar Rehman’s Jahanzeb asking his cousin Murtaza, played by Mirza Zain Baig, to marry his own wife, impregnate her, and then divorce her so Jahanzeb could claim the child as his own due to being infertile.  This insane plot twist certainly made viewers sit up and take notice – but since then, the ridiculousness of the story has gotten out of hand.

In episode 24, the entire family now believes Afreen (Anmol Baloch) to be characterless girl, a woman who has been having an affair with Murtaza despite being “married” to Jahanzeb (Azfar Rehman).  The entire premise of this story is ludicrous, because Murtaza ad Afreen are remaining quiet throughout their character assassination in order to “protect” Noor Ammi (Saba Hameed).  Would Noor Ammi have an easier time accepting this trailer trash behavior of a story rather than accept that her son is a thoroughly horrible human being – and justifies it because he’s impotent?  But since we are on that point, let’s just clarify that both Murtaza and Afreen are also morons and slightly characterless for even continuing to go on with this pretense.  The two want to remain married and continue hiding the truth – what are they waiting for?  There is a little baby in the mix now, so how could they be so flippant?

What makes matters worse is that Noor Ammi, after finding the two together, takes the baby away from Afreen.  She believes this is her grandson.  How easy would it be for Murtaza to run a paternity test and prove that this little baby is his and Afreen’s son and has nothing to do with Jahanzeb?  That’s right.  It would be easy.  Furthermore, why would these two amazing parents (please read the sarcasm) allow their child to be taken away from them and raised by a devil like Jahanzeb?  Their silence is ridiculous.  They cannot even be classified as good people, because they’ve always liked each other and should have just married each other in the first place rather than playing this warped marriage musical chairs.

Going into further drudgery, Afshan (Sharmeen Ali) and Sophie (Ayesha Omer) now know the truth.  Yet they continue to listen to Jahanzeb’s lies and deceit as he plays innocent in front of Noor Ammi.  Is telling the truth really so difficult for everyone else?  And what sort of illusions does Noor Ammi live in that she can’t see the truth staring her in the face?  Why would she not be able to handle that truth anyway, considering she’s literally hearing the worst, most repulsive stories about her daughter-in-law and nephew?

There isn’t any redemption for “Bisaat.”  It has long gone past the point of saving.  What’s unfortunate is that actors like Anmol Baloch, Mirza Zain Baig, Azfar Rehman, Ayesha Omer and Saba Hameed have aligned themselves with a truly trashy script like this one.  One cannot even imagine reading this on paper and believing it would sound good.
