Bollywood Stars Questioned In Fake Followers Probe

Most Bollywood bigwigs have a massive following, be it on Twitter, Facebook or any other social media platform. They grab eyeballs wherever they go and have loyal fans who are always cheering them on, especially when it comes to a new chapter in their professional or personal lives. Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra among others, surely make the cut for being the top most sought-after actors in Indian cinema today. But with great fame comes great responsibility too! If recent reports are to be trusted, Deepika and Priyanka will allegedly be interrogated by the Mumbai Police this week.

According to several media outlets, the two leading ladies supposedly have fake followers on Instagram, most of which are spam accounts. Apparently, Deepika and Priyanka are among over 170 high profile persons including actors and sportspersons who are being interrogated by the police officials. No other names from the Indian film industry have come out yet. Deepika is followed by over 50 million people on Instagram while the Quantico starlet has over 55 million followers on the photo-video sharing app. Moreover, Deepika has over 27 million followers on Twitter, followed by PeeCee who stands at 26.3 million.

Mumbai’s Joint Commissioner of Police, Vinay Kumar Chaubey stated that they have found around 54 firms that have a role in the fake social media followers scam, reported Pinkvilla. A special investigation team has been assigned to look into the case. Recently, Bollywood singer Bhumi Trivedi found a fake profile of her name on social media. According to Times of India, a man named Abhishek Dinesh Daude has reportedly been arrested by the Criminal Intelligence Unit of Mumbai Police in relation to the case. Such fake accounts are also being used to create mayhem, with stars being trolled, receiving death threats and facing cyber-bullying in the recent past.
