Burns Road Kay Romeo Juliet: Farhad and Friya Navigate “Real Life” In Episode 15

“Burns Road Kay Romeo Juliet” has not been pulling in the social media buzz expected from an Iqra Aziz and Hamza Sohail show, considering the popularity of the two actors.  Quite honestly, it’s a shame, because as far as Romeo and Juliet stories go, “Burns Roady Kay Romeo Juliet” offers a unique twist on the tale, recreating that story within a Pakistani neighborhood.  The rivalry stems from cultural differences and caste discrimination, forcing our young lovebirds to run away from home.  Starring Hamza Sohail and Iqra Aziz in lead roles, the show also stars Shabbir Jan, Khalid Anum, Raza Samo, Zainab Qayyum, Shaheera Jalil Albasit and others in a story written by Parisa Siddiqui and directed by Fajr Raza.

Episode 15 is a winner of an episode, one which moves away from misery and moves more towards positivity.  Up until now, we have seen Friya (Iqra Aziz) and Farhad (Hamza Sohail) coming to terms with their new reality, their families refusing to accept them back.  “Time heals all” has not worked in this case, at least so far, and the two now realize it’s time to move forward.  With a new place, Friya is not enjoying the unannounced “guests” in the form of mice and having to learn how to cook.  Used to living in the lap of luxury, she is also having a hard time adjusting to the neighbors, particularly the controlling Chano Auntie, played by Atiqa Odho.  Will Chano Auntie and her husband wind up being the comfort and support Farhad and Friya need?  Atiqa Odho is a welcome addition to the cast in a light-hearted role along with the actor playing her husband.

Another highlight of the show is the relationship between Shaggo and Hamid.  The way these two handle their friendship and discuss their problems is the perfect representation of a mature adult relationship.  When Shaggo realizes Hamid has proposed for her, she doesn’t rush off into a huff or develop a rude attitude.  She calmly asks him, trusting him as her friend, why he did so?  The conversation the two share proves that they are a genuinely good match for one another and this is a love story we are more than rooting for.

Hamza Sohail and Iqra Aziz continue to breathe life into their characters.  Iqra is perfect as Friya, a spoiled young woman who struggles with finding her footing in “real life,” coming from a luxurious lifestyle.  Hamza Sohail portrays Farhad’s plight with believability as he struggles with finding a high-paying job and lacks time for a social life due to married responsibilities.  Their struggles are different, but equal, showing that marriage without preparation isn’t easy and requires work.  There are so many positives in this well-executed show.  We can only hope it stays on track and the second half of the show remains as strong as the first half has been.
