Chadwick Boseman loses battle to colon cancer, passes away aged 43

Just when we thought 2020 couldn’t get any worse, we have woken up to yet some more sad news. The star of Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman, has passed away after a four-year-long battle with colon cancer at the age of 43. His representative confirmed the news of his passing via his own Twitter account.

“It is with immeasurable grief that we announce the passing of Chadwick Boseman. Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last four years as it progressed to stage IV,” the statement read. “A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much. From Marshall, to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy,” the statement continued.

While Chadwick never openly spoke about his diagnosis, he worked throughout his treatment for much of his career. It all started when he played another Black American icon, NAACP lawyer and future Supreme Court justice Thurgood Marshall in Marshall. This was a year prior to Black Panther. This year he is all set to appear in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, a feature adaptation of the August Wilson play.

Boseman is survived by his wife and family. Sending well wishes and prayers to the family of Chadwick Boseman during this difficult time.
