Chrissy Teigen Quits Twitter: ‘It No Longer Serves Me Positively’

Celebrities from Hollywood, Bollywood and around the world, have condemned cyberbullying and its rapid rise over the years. Most have cited mental health struggles as the inevitable result of continuous trolling and body-shaming by social media users, leaving even the strongest among them with no option but to deactivate their accounts. Last year, B-town A-lister Sonakshi Sinha announced her exit from Twitter after being trolled extensively. She soon kicked off the campaign ‘Ab Bus,’ aimed at those who get the kick out of humiliating others. While several stars have followed suit in the recent past, the latest to bite the dust is tinsel town’s Chrissy Teigen. Taking to the micro-blogging site, Teigen made the announcement in a series of posts and disabled her account soon after.

She revealed the platform was having a negative effect on her well-being. “For over 10 years, you guys have been my world. I honestly owe so much to this world we have created here. I truly consider so many of you my actual friends,” Teigen started off. “But it’s time for me to say goodbye. This no longer serves me as positively as it serves me negatively, and I think that’s the right time to call something.”

The Hollywood starlet continued, “I’ve always been portrayed as the strong clap back girl but I’m just not. My desire to be liked and fear of pissing people off has made me somebody you didn’t sign up for, and a different human than I started out here as! Live well, tweeters. Please know all I ever cared about was you!!!” Teigen then asked her followers to never forget that their words matter. “No matter what you see, what that person portrays, or your intention. For years I have taken so many small, 2-follower count punches that at this point, I am honestly deeply bruised,” she concluded.
