Churails: Four Fierce Women Set Out To Save Their World

Not often do we see an all in one amalgamation of a star-studded cast, gripping storyline and picture-perfect direction. Pakistani director Asim Abbasi proves otherwise with every outing. The filmmaker’s talent and dedication to his work is evident through the works he has churned out over the years, impressing audiences time and again. But his latest project hits different. Churails – slated to begin streaming from August 11 on ZEE5 – recently dropped its much-anticipated trailer and left viewers yearning for more. Packed with a mixed bag of emotions, the web show unravels the story of four independent women, who come together in their fight against patriarchy. But they are not alone! They have each other and that is what gets them through every curveball that is thrown at them in their individual lives.

The almost three-minute-long clip starts off with introducing each woman in their everyday setting. All of them hail from different walks of life, from Sara (Sarwat Gilani) whose supposedly perfect marriage turns rocky when her husband (Omair Rana) turns out to be disloyal to Jugnu (Yasra Riazvi) who essays a struggling wedding planner in the show. In another world, there is a boxer named Batool (MeharBano) who is naturally talented and is trying to make it big in society by slamming gender stereotypes. Last but not the least, the trailer shows Zubaida (Nimra Bucha) who has recently been released following a murder charge against her.

As their worlds collide, the four self-proclaimed Churails come together to open a covert detective agency. Through their new-fangled company, they aim to expose cheating husbands and as their operations expand, they become the guardian angels for women who have long been suffering at the hands of domestic abuse and mistreatment. The show aims to challenge the hypocrisy of male-controlled societies that rip women off their basic rights. They run the agency under the disguise of a fashion store named “Halal Designs.” All strong women at the forefront of a judgmental and male dominated society are a delight to watch and we cannot wait to see how the show unfolds. Unapologetic and fierce, they are on a mission to save suppressed women, one step at a time!

Twitter users have been singing praises for the trailer for various reasons. “Churails seems like such a fun show. Can’t wait to watch. But sadly, equally unimaginable in real life!” wrote one user, adding it is wishful thinking that such a movement can kick off in desi communities without retaliation from religious and overpowering factions of society. “Ladies and Gentlemen, the revolution begins!” posted cast member Rizvi. Replying to her post, one fan commented, “Finest work to be seen soon! Looking forward.”

Some who are not inclined towards Pakistani shows have even shown interest for Churails. “I don’t watch Pakistani television but I’m genuinely excited for #Churails,” read a post. Others could not stop praising the trailer either. “The Trailer was Amazing. Loved it! Seriously, this was beyond Expectations!! #Churails is a great piece with great message.” A similar tweet we stumbled across was, “Churails looks so good and promising!!! Can’t wait to watch it!!! One user drew parallels with Burqa Avenger. “Asim Abbasi’s Churails looks like a delightfully adult version of Burqa Avenger. Can’t wait. August 11, on Zee Zindagi.” Going by the reactions on the micro-blogging site, it seems like its not just us but everyone is pumped with excitement to see the four Churails conquer the world! Are you ready? Because we are!
