People world over have dealt with the coronavirus pandemic in different ways. While some remain true to the WHO recommendations and are practicing social distancing while also taking all necessary safety precautions, there are a handful of individuals who are still not taking Covid-19 seriously. In fact, for them, the virus is nothing but a “hoax”. Unfortunately, this week witnessed the demise of a 30-year-old man in Florida, United States, who reportedly contracted the infection after attending a party, hosted by an infected person. According to reports, he and the others who were present at the gathering, did not think the coronavirus was deadly or real to begin with.
Jane Appleby, chief medical officer at the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, mentioned the man did not care to take the virus seriously, despite it killing more than 135,000 people in the United States alone. “Someone will be diagnosed with the disease, and they’ll have a party to invite their friends over to see if they can beat the disease,” Appleby said in a video broadcast by US media on Sunday.
“One of the things that was heart-wrenching that he said to his nurse was, “You know, I think I made a mistake.”

Appleby continued, “He thought the disease was a hoax. He thought he was young and invincible and wouldn’t get affected by the disease,” adding young patients often do not realise how sick they are. “They don’t look really sick. But when you check their oxygen levels and their lab tests, they’re really sicker than they appear.” He called out the carelessness of youngsters in America and urged everyone to be safe in their homes.
