With the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in the UAE, various authorities in Dubai have been carrying out inspections to ensure that all precautionary measures are being observed by individuals, businesses and tourist spots.
On Tuesday, 15th September, Dubai Economy (DED) fined 12 establishments including sewing shops, gyms and commercial establishments in malls for not following safety guidelines. In a tweet Dubai Economy wrote that gyms had been fined in cooperation with Dubai Sports Council in Al Safa Valley and Al Rashideya, and that five shops had also been issued warnings “for not adhering to the precautionary measures, specifically social distancing.”
No businesses were closed while 767 establishments were found to be compliant with the government’s COVID-19 rules. Several businesses were asked to place the social distancing stickers around their premises.
In an earlier tweet, Dubai Economy had also asked consumers to report any violations by either clicking a photo of the respective facility and uploading it on the Dubai Consumer app or by calling 600545555 or visiting the www.Consumerrights.ae website.
Last week, several shops and restaurants were shut down in the emirate as they were overcrowded due to sales and free meal offers. One store was hit with an AED 50,000 fine with Dubai Economy stating that it would not be “lenient in any way” with retailers who broke the rules.

On Wednesday, the UAE recorded 842 new cases of coronavirus, with 821 recoveries and one death. This takes the total number of cases to 81,782, with 71,456 recoveries and 402 deaths. The country has authorised the emergency use of COVID-19 vaccine for first line defense heroes who are at the greatest risk of being infected. The Ministry of Health and Prevention has confirmed that results from the first and second phase trials of the vaccine have shown it to be safe and effective.
