COVID-19: Thousands of People Tested Daily at Dubai-Abu Dhabi Border

More than 6,000 people are getting tested everyday for coronavirus at the newly-established testing facility on the Dubai-Abu Dhabi border. The new facility, located near the Ghantoot checkpoint, conducts a laser test priced at AED 50 only and provides test results in less than five minutes.

According to a news report in the Khaleej Times, the facility, run inside an air-conditioned tent and managed by Tamouh Healthcare, has the capacity to test around 10,000 people on a daily basis and currently, the numbers go up to 8,000 during the weekends. A spokesperson for Tamouh Healthcare, Abdullah A Rashdi was quoted as saying that their goal is to make things easier for people and test as many as possible in order to prevent the further spread of coronavirus.

He further said that families are being given priority in testing and commuters are being encouraged to book their appointments in advance.

The facility has 20 lanes for queuing, with separate queues for families, and 260 waiting points so that physical distance can be maintained while people are waiting to take the test. The centre has 45 tables, with two technicians on each table, who complete each test within 15 minutes. People can pay for the test with debit or credit cards only and those with a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test are allowed to enter Abu Dhabi.
