The United Arab Emirates seems to be winning the race for Covid-19 vaccinations, when it comes to administering the jab to its population. In a latest development, the country has crossed the nine million doses mark this week. This comes after an additional 30,430 inoculations were given to citizens on Sunday, under the National Vaccination Programme. According to health authorities, 9,005,444 doses have been distributed till date, representing 91.05 shots for every 100 people in the country, reported Khaleej Times. In even better news, the UAE has also recorded under 2,000 new infections for three consecutive days, another positive sign for the country, as it aims to completely eradicate the deadly virus at its earliest.
On Sunday, the number of new cases recorded were 1,810, while there were 1,931 new cases the previous day. Dr Adel Alsisi, chief medical officer of Prime Hospital said, “We are thrilled that the UAE has achieved this incredible milestone. The current rate of inoculation not only reduces chances of virus transmission within the community but also protects citizens and residents from foreign visitors who may be carrying the virus.”

He added, “We are definitely moving towards achieving herd immunity. He, however urged citizens to continue adhering to social distancing protocols and wearing masks at all times. Dr Rohit Kumar, Medical Director, Medeor Hospital Dubai, added, “Completing nine million doses in such a short duration is a commendable achievement. The rapid pace and progress in vaccinating the population is a testament to our leadership’s vision and commitment. The massive efforts of the government have lowered the number of daily positive cases reported in the country.” He expressed great pride in the drastic decline of the Covid-19 positivity ratio in the UAE. “We have witnessed continuous five days of less than 2,000 new Covid-19 cases this week. Vaccination has been key to this achievement. If the mass vaccination and other measures are going at the same pace, we will be soon able to overcome the deadly virus,” concluded Kumar.
