After a decline in the number of coronavirus cases over the past couple of weeks, the UAE is again witnessing an increase, with an average of 136 more cases recorded daily in the country. The number of confirmed infections has risen to 64,906 while the death toll is now at 366, according to the official spokesman for the UAE Government, Dr Omar Al Hammadi. He also shared that 115 more patients have fully recovered from the infection, taking the number of recoveries to 57,909. He said the new coronavirus patients were in stable condition and receiving the necessary treatment.
The increase in COVID-19 cases is being attributed to the increase in family and social gatherings during which many people do not observe mandatory precautionary measures, such as maintaining physical distance and wearing face masks.
Al Hammadi said, “As sport facilities and gyms are reopening, we urge the public to commit to social distancing, wearing face mask and disinfecting hands before and after using equipment. Also, it is advisable to avoid group sports.”
Speaking during a media briefing, UAE’s Minister of Health and Prevention, Abdul Rahman Bin Mohammed Al Owais said, “Despite a significant decline in COVID-19 cases in the past few weeks, unfortunately we see a surge in daily cases. We urge the public to adhere to precautionary measures and to avoid family and social gatherings.”

He highlighted that more than 6 million COVID-19 tests had been carried out in the UAE and also spoke about the success of the ongoing vaccine trials. He said, “Phase three of the clinical trial to develop a Covid-19 vaccine is progressing well. No side effects have been observed on volunteers who participated in the trials. We value their contribution and invite more volunteers to take part in the trials.”
