Dean Jones’ Passing: Pakistani Celebrities Pen Heartfelt Tributes

Cricket legend Dean Jones sudden passing has left a void in the sporting world. The ace talent suffered from a cardiac arrest in Mumbai, leaving his fans, colleagues, juniors and loved ones shaken. Jones was appointed for off-tube commentary on the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) in the UAE. The former Australian cricketer was widely popular in Pakistan. He coached the Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Islamabad United, leading them to victory in 2016 and 2018. He also trained the Karachi Kings for a short period. Many from the cricket world – from commentators to former and current players – took to social media to convey their condolences following the demise of a true global hero.

Amongst them were a bevy of renowned Pakistani stars who could not come to terms with the news of the tragic death. Posting a picture alongside Jones, Bilal Ashraf captioned it, “Rip Dean Jones. We will miss you.” Wasim Akram’s heartfelt note read, “I know I speak for all of Pakistan when I say thank you, thanks for batting for us and everything you contributed to Pakistan cricket. You will never be forgotten. Like everyone else, I’m absolutely gutted. The world lost a good man today. My friend @ProfDeano. I will miss you #RIPDeano.”

Following suit, actor-singer Farhan Saeed and a passionate cricket lover paid his respects to Jones. Re-tweeting Akram’s post, he penned, “Absolutely! RIP Dean, you were a rock star!” Fakhr-e-Alam wrote, “Extremely sad to hear about the sudden and unexpected demise of @ProfDeanoresult of cardiac arrest. He will be missed by cricket fans around the world. RIP.” Paying tribute to Jones, Haroon Shahid shared he will always miss Jones’ involvement in Pakistani cricket. He noted, “Absolutely shocked! Goodbye, will miss your views on the game and keen interest in Pakistani cricket. #DeanJones.” Australian-born Shaniera Akram was extremely saddened by the news of Jones passing too. Taking to Twitter, she typed, “Dean Jones died doing what he loved in a country he loved. Thank you Pakistan, India and the whole cricketing subcontinent for loving this great Australian man as much as the Aussies did. #RIPDeanJones Gone but never forgotten.”
