Taking to Twitter on Friday, US President Donald Trump announced that his wife, Melania Trump and himself have contracted Covid-19. The president had been in close contact with his advisor, Hope Hicks, who he announced had contracted the virus five days earlier. As a precautionary measure, Donald and Melania Trump got tested and their results came positive this morning.

The president wrote on his Twitter account that they would be commencing their quarantine and their recovery process and of cours, Twitter had a lot to say. A number of Twitter users came out in support of the president, sending him and Melania well wishes and hoping for their speedy recovery, while others saw a more amusing side to it and had sarcastic responses with a hint of humour; with many telling him to ingest disinfectant to cure himself. The US president had made a reference to ingesting disinfectant earlier this year when the Coronavirus had started to spread.

While a number of humorous tweets are making rounds on social media, one particular tweet has caught our attention. A post making rounds which has since been deleted, suggested that Trump will surprise the nation with being covid-19 positive, which will remove Joe Biden from the spotlight, right in time for the November elections.

“Trump’s October surprise will be the announcement of “his infection”. Fake, but quite dramatic. This twist will blow Biden off the screens, the “Trump Covid Watch” dominating every minute of every day. Then 14 days later, Trump will emerge, 100% cured by hydroxychloroquine,” the tweet reads. The prediction was made and shared on Twitter on September 18, 2020, over 10 days before Donald Trump, or even his advisor Hope Hicks were tested for the novel coronavirus. Many Twitter users have asserted that Donald Trump’s positive test result comes at a time when the presidential campaign is in full swing and the elections are just over a month away.

“Hang on, wait! We know Trump is a pathological liar. And he is losing badly in the election. Is this all a hoax to avoid having to participate in any future debates with Biden & to drum up some public sympathy? His campaign really is spiraling so don’t rule out anything,” on user asserted.

In response to this, another user wrote, “While this is an extraordinary development; part of me fears it’s a stunt. Three scenarios current running through my head: 1. He “tests positive” only to be the only person to survive this so bigly, the likes of which no one has ever seen.”

Many pointed fingers at the timings of the president to test positive for the virus, saying that it was convenient to happen so close to the election. “This is a way for him to cancel the debate, also downplay the severity of Covid when they come out of their fake quarantine. Plus, this is a way for Menaia to avoid press questions about the recordings of her. It’s all a win win for them to fake Covid positives,” one anti-Trump user wrote.

To top it all off, one user went as far as sharing a fake clip from an episode of the Simpsons, which shows Donald Trump resting in a coffin. The Simpsons has been known to have made a number of predictions pertaining to worldly events. “Oh, so we’re on this episode of the Simpson’s now,” the user wrote.

As the news circulates across social media, a number of netizens have flooded to the micro-blogging site to wish the president and his wife a speedy recovery.
