Dil Awaiz Episode 21: This Affan Waheed and Kinza Hashmi Cinderella Tale Is Enjoyable

“Dil Awaiz” falls into the category of melodrama, an over the top storyline that feels very much out of place with today’s times.  And yet, there’s something oddly entertaining about the story and its characters.  The story follows Dil Awaiz (Kinza Hashmi), a young girl who has been mistreated in her own home due to her mother’s questionable background.  Her father, Shahabuddin (Kashif Mehmood) was deeply in love with her mother, a courtesan, but was “betrayed” by her, leaving him unable to love – and more importantly, deeply hating his daughter due to her identical appearance.  Starring Kinza Hashmi, Affan Waheed, Seemi Raheel, Kashif Mehmood, Javeria Abbasi, Fazeela Qazi, Farhan Ali Agha, Raeed Aslam, Yasra Rizvi, Ayesha Gul, Saife Hassan and others, the story has been written by Madiha Shahid and directed by Mazhar Moin.

Now on episode 21, Dil Awaiz has been embraced by Shahabuddin after she made the ultimate sacrifice, stepping in to fill Faria’s (Sabeena Farooq) shoes after she runs away from her wedding.  Married to Zain (Affan Waheed), their marriage took off to a rocky start with Zain “in  love” with Faria (as he thinks Faria is his mysterious “pazeb” girl, not realizing he is already married to his dream girl), heightened by the “deception” of Dil Awaiz’s background.

At present, Dil Awaiz and Zain’s relationship is coming to a good point where the two understand each other and are accepting of the other – even caring.  Affan Waheed and Kinza Hashmi have nice chemistry and make a sweet pair. Unfortunately, Faria has made her return after being betrayed by her “love,” the man she ran away with.  Quite ridiculously, she has fixated on getting Zain back, as if he ever belonged to her in the first place.  She willingly abandoned him, but now that he’s married to her sister, she can’t tolerate Dil Awaiz having better than her.  The story, just at this point, is reminiscent of “Aaina” (Bollywood), a film with two sisters fighting over one sister’s husband.  Obviously, the story is overall quite different, but this will be an interesting direction for the story to go.

Overall, “Dil Awaiz” has taken an interesting turn and it will be entertaining to see how Faria attempts to come between Zain and Dil Awaiz.  Will she be able to?  And when will Zain realize Dil Awaiz is the woman he has been searching for all along (though that “love story” is bizarre and ridiculous on its own)?  The melodrama is obviously a negative and the extended family members are thoroughly unlikable.  Javeria Abbasi’s character is the ultimate worst and while we can understand that her behavior stems from Shahabuddin’s neglect, there still isn’t any reason for her mistreatment and ill thoughts toward Dil Awaiz.  Likewise, Ayesha Gul’s character is kind at times and evil at others, so it’s hard to figure out her endgame.  Qudsia Ali and Sabeena Farooq both seem miscast in their roles, neither really “fitting” in their arrogant, self-obsessed roles.  Overall, it’s Affan Waheed and Kinza Hashmi’s characters who make the story work along with a fun story, making “Dil Awaiz” a guilty-pleasure sort of show.
