“Dil Ruba” stars Hania Amir in the leading role, supported by actors like Mohib Mirza, Nabeel Zuberi, Asad Siddiqui, Shehroze Sabzwari and Syed Jibran. Up until now, “Dil Ruba” has been a fast-paced story with interesting characters. Following Sanam, played by Hania Amir, the story focuses on how Sanam’s flirtatious past affects her present. Unfortunately, as the show progresses, the plot has turned into one that shames and punishes a woman for having a past – while she’s expected to accept the pasts of the men that come into her life.
In episode 15, Sanam (Hania Amir) and Khurram (Syed Jibran) are seen fighting over Khurram’s behavior. And while Khurram initially leaves the house, his girlfriend convinces him to go back and win Sanam’s trust to get control over his property. After Khurram’s return, Sanam is seen changing herself to Khurram’s standards in everything from dressing sense to behavior. Sanam genuinely seems to be trying to please her husband, but what she doesn’t realize is how she is letting her father-in-law down, who wanted her to “fix” his son rather than follow his path. Khurram does not have good intentions and not only creates situations where Sanam neglects her son, but also asks her to create a social circle for herself and attend different events. What his game plan is exactly is not clear, but his main goal is certainly to get control back of his property – and he’s wiling to do anything to make that happen.
It’s hilarious that Khurram’s household staff gives better advice to Sanam than her own mother and sister. While the staff member tells Sanam to mold herself to Khurram’s liking in order to change his ways, Ghazala and Iram are appalled to see Sanam wearing “modern” clothing. The average viewer would take one look at Sanam and think “she’s covered, so what’s wrong with her clothing?” But no, according to Ghazala and Iram, she has lost all her values and sense of right and wrong by dressing in athletic wear. While Sanam calmly tries to explain that she has to change in order to keep her husband happy, Iram and Ghazala ask Sanam why she couldn’t mold Khurram to her ways instead. Again, this comment is hilarious, because it is Iram and Ghazala who encouraged Sanam to make her marriage work by making her husband happy. This terrible twosome pushed Sanam into a marriage, called her unlucky after her husband’s death, forced her to get remarried against her will, forced her to make her marriage work when Khurram’s truth was revealed and now are shocked when Sanam is doing exactly that. Two more irritating, more illogical characters have not been seen on television in a while and it’s not understandable why Marina Khan would sign a role like this which is simply not worthy of her talent. These women are so confused – and in a way, they are realistically so, but also horribly unlikable.

Unfortunately, the Khurram track has dragged the storyline down quite a bit and it’s exhausting to watch a man in his 40s constantly talking about “parties” and “having fun.” The last three episodes have been much of the same with Khurram declaring he’s leaving the house, visiting his girlfriend and then being convinced by her to pretend to care about Sanam….in each episode. Syed Jibran’s acting isn’t particularly anything to write home about either at the moment, but Hania Amir’s performance wasn’t anything special this time around either. The episode overall was a dud and other than the irritating scene between Sanam and her family, there wasn’t any scene in particular that managed to stand out. Unfortunately the next episode doesn’t look much better with more misery headed Sanam’s way.
