Week after week passes and each week, I make tall claims of stopping the reviews on “Dil Ruba,” but somehow, we find ourselves here again. “Dil Ruba” is like a train-wreck. You want to turn away, but there’s something about it that keeps your eyes trained on it. Now what exactly is the “something” in this show…..that’s a mystery. Is it Hania Amir’s acting? Maybe, because she is a great actress. Most likely it’s the desire to see Ghazala and Iram suffer for their terrible life choices. Of course, Sabeeh’s happiness is certainly something to hold on for – but is that happiness with Sanam? That’s a grim thought. Regardless of the reason, we’re still here, we’re still watching and still discussing, so let’s get into it.
This show is full of insane characters. There’s absolutely no sexism here, they’re just all crazy. But Shehnaaz (Huma Nawab) is on a different level of crazy. While her husband (Khalid Anum) has come down from the insanity and understands the delicate nature of relationships, Shehnaaz does not see rhyme or reason and just sees Sanam as “the villain.” Junaid has moved away and is living his life, but Shehnaaz still blames Sanam for everything that went wrong. It’s as if Junaid isn’t a grown man who made a mistake growing attached to a woman he only met 2-3 times……wow, what an idea, a grown man responsible for his own actions. But anyway, this track had to spiral into Sanam’s “destruction” somehow, right?
Of course, Ghazala (Marina Khan) and Iram’s actions continue to spiral into the realm of nonsensical. The terrible twosome plot and hatch plans that will get them nowhere and the latest one is to keep Sehrish away from Shehnaaz – but how long can one keep a girl away from her family? Sehrish isn’t one to take this lying down and creates a fuss…or two…..or three and ultimately, she meets with Shehnaaz and is informed about Sanam’s “actions.” Sehrish couldn’t possibly be logical enough to say “Well, that’s not my headache,” could she? Of course not! Let’s add another insane character to the show. Sehrish is still hung up on Junaid and so she calls him and tells him she will never forgive the girl who made Junaid reject her. Oh good grief!
Sanam has made plenty of mistakes in her life, but most of them have seemed understandable, whether they be out of naivety or peer pressure. But at present, Sanam’s mistakes are being made at the encouragement of the worst friend humanly possible. Not only does she give terrible advice (“Follow your heart, do whatever you want, chase love all over the country from wherever you can get it” – WHAT?), but she’s also portrayed by a truly terrible actress. I don’t know her name and I don’t make it a habit of criticizing, but please Hum TV, don’t do this again. On Sanam’s end, it’s not difficult to understand why she’s so easily lured, because she’s trapped in a marriage without love where she doesn’t even see her husband. Of course a man like Farhad would look like a great option – and really, he’s saying all the right things. To find someone who loves you, doesn’t care about your baggage and past and is willing to take you away from it all – any girl would start dreaming of a different life. Unfortunately for Sanam, Farhad looks perfect and uncomfortably so, enough that it’s clear he has been hired by someone. Judging by Khurram’s reaction, he may not be behind it, but it’s great news for him when Sanam asks for a divorce, which leads viewers to believe Khurram’s wife is behind it. Either way, Sanam is headed into a messy situation.

A part of me would love to say “I won’t review this show after this week,” but let’s be honest – it’s difficult to break away from this show, as grating as it is. Hania Amir is doing a great job as is Mohib Mirza in the two minutes of screen time he blesses us with in each episode. The performances are not the issue with this show, the lack of logical characters is. With the exception of Sabeeh and his mother, there isn’t one single sane character on this entire show. Let the insanity prevail.
