The year 2020 has been a sad state of affairs which has seen a number of tragedies. From the global pandemic, to natural calamities, plane crashes and a number of deaths, there’s only so much we have been able to do to keep our hopes high. Bollywood also lost the young life of Sushant Singh Rajput which left a dark hole in the industry. Two of veteran actor Dilip Kumar’s brothers also lost their lives at the hands of Covid-19.
Both of Dilip Kumar’s brothers lost their lives to Covid-19 in the span of two weeks. A leading Indian daily however has reported that Dilip Kumar has not yet been informed of their deaths. According to Hindustan Times, Dilip Kumar’s wife Saira Banu opened up in a recent interview in which she stated that the family does not yet want to reveal the news to Kumar.
“To tell you the truth, Dilip saab has not been told that Aslam bhai and Ehsaan bhai are no more. We keep every kind of disturbing news away from him,” she was quoted as saying by the daily. She further went on to add that her husband was also not made aware of the fact that Bollywood veteran Amitabh Bachchan had contracted the virus. “We didn’t even tell him when Amitabh Bachchan contracted COVID-19 and was admitted in Nanavati Hospital; he’s very fond of Amitab,” she said.
Both of Dilip Kumar’s brothers, Ehsan and Aslam were admitted to Lilavati Hospital on August 15 after they complained of breathlessness and eventually tested positive for Covid-19. His younger brother Aslam Khan, 88, died on August 21 while Ehsan Khan (90) breathed his last last week.
“It is so terrible to lose both of them, almost together. We also lost a friend a few days back, again due to Covid-19; she was just 51 and full of life. Covid-19 is definitely some punishment being meted out by God. Never witnessed such a catastrophe before. The world over has erred and is paying a price. Let us now pray to God to forgive us,” Banu concluded her interview.
