Dubai: 3D Art Festival at City Walk Showcases Travel and Adventure

Dubai Canvas 2020, a month-long art festival, is currently taking place at City Walk. The 3D art festival has been organised by Brand Dubai — part of the Government of Dubai Media Office — in collaboration with Meraas. The exhibition, which will run until 31st August, is showcasing a number of interactive artworks based on the theme ‘Travelling Through Art’.

It aims to highlight people’s love for travel and adventure, and has brought together a group of contemporary artists with varied styles and artistic approaches. This includes internationally recognised street artists Juandres Vera and Milan Katanic, and UAE’s leading as well as emerging artists, including Mahra Al Falahi, Saggaf Al Hashemi and Ahmed Al Mahri

Speaking about the festival, Manager of City Branding at Brand Dubai, Shaima Al Suwaidi said, “Aesthetically playful and experimental, the artworks on display at Dubai Canvas are delightfully interactive pieces that invite audiences to engage with them. The perspective-bending 3D murals encourage people to become part of the artwork and capture priceless Instagram-able moments.”

Juandrés Vera, who is a Guinness World Record holder, is presenting ‘Come Fly with Me’ which shows a plane flying over the Burj Al Arab. Another piece by Vera, called ‘A New Message in a Bottle’, is about the sea as the “oldest and largest bridge that connects the creatures of the planet.”

Saggaf Al Hashemi, a leading artist from the UAE, has created a piece titled ‘Rocket Traveling Through Space’ which presents a 3D illusion of a glowing rocket bursting out of the floor.

Emerging artist Mahra Al Falahi has created a mural, ‘A Plane of Thoughts’, which features a paper plane flying in the sky. Another mural by Mahra, titled ‘The Wonder Brush’, is based on the vast possibilities of the creative mind.

Along with the 3D murals, Dubai Canvas is also hosting live pendulum painting performances by Serbian artist Milan Katanic (aka Kal3).
