Weddings are undeniably a major part of everyone’s lives. From friends to siblings and relatives, we all have that one week of festivities dedicated to a special someone each year. This year however, the coronavirus outbreak disrupted plans everywhere, with most brides-and-grooms-to-be postponing their nuptials to a better and safer time. With the world slowly opening up again and adapting to the new normal, some countries have finally granted permission to resume social gatherings, with Covid-19 precautions in place. Dubai has now allowed wedding receptions to take place from October 22, 2020, in hotels, halls, homes temporary venues and tents in residential areas.
The announcement was made on Monday by the Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management. Those residing in Dubai can now celebrate and host public gatherings, in an environment where precautionary measures are strictly implemented and high levels of safety are maintained, reported Gulf News. The Committee headed by His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum stressed the importance of families following precautionary guidelines as part of the comprehensive enforcement of health and safety measures. Strict action will be taken against those who fail to adhere to the instructions.

The conditions for holding a wedding event include a maximum cap of 200 people in halls while tents and homes are allowed to host not more than 30 people. All guests are required to wear face masks at all times and can remove them only when seated at their tables, with a maximum of five guests allowed per table, while keeping a 1.5 metres distance between each other. Tables should be placed at least two metres apart from each other. The duration of the event at halls, hotels, homes, temporary venues and tents should not exceed four hours and elderly people and those with underlying health conditions are advised to stay home. The committee added that any person experiencing symptoms such as coughing or fever must avoid attending the event.
