World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) — a forum that represents the global travel and tourism sector — has introduced a new ranking system to guide tourists and travel providers towards safe destinations around the world. WTTC President and Chief Executive, Gloria Guevara said their Safe Travels stamp was crucial for “travellers and the 330 million people around the world who work in and depend on the travel and tourism sector.”

The WTTC has just awarded Dubai with the global safety and hygiene stamp due to the city’s impressive response to the pandemic and adaptation of global health and safety measures in a post-COVID world.

Following the decline in coronavirus cases, the UAE recently eased travel restrictions and reopened the country to tourists while implementing rules for social distancing and processes for maintaining health and hygiene in all public areas. These rules and processes are based on health and safety guidelines provided by the World Health Organisation and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.

Speaking about safety measures, Director-General Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism), Helal Saeed Almarri said that the well-being of international visitors was top priority and that “stringent hygiene and safety protocols” had been “deployed across all tourist touch points.”

He said the WTTC’s stamp endorsed “Dubai’s strong global co-operation in combating the pandemic with comprehensive and effective measures to ensure guest health and safety.”

He further said, “We trust that our efforts not only provide an optimised experience for our visitors, but also secure their health and that of their families, further cementing the confidence that our guests have had thus far in Dubai, and encouraging people from every corner of the world to visit one of the safest cities in the world this summer.
