Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) is celebrating the UAE’s historic Hope Probe Mission to Mars. A contemporary mural will be painted to pay tribute to this achievement in space exploration. Designer Amna Basheer and emerging Emirati artist Reem Al Mazroui have been selected to collaborate on creating the mural, which will be developed with the support of Art Painting Lab. It is part of Dubai Culture’s Create Together campaign which was launched in March to encourage members of the authority’s digital platforms to tap their creative potential during the lockdown.
Speaking about the new project based on the mission to Mars, Director-General Dubai Culture, Hala Badri said, “The launch of Hope Probe, the first Arab mission to Mars to study its weather and atmosphere, is a source of pride for all of us showing what creative minds and talent of our Emirati brothers and sisters have accomplished over six years of perseverance and hard work. This is a historic moment that we have all looked forward to and will cherish forever.”
She highlighted how the mission would not have been possible without the leadership of Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and added, “This achievement serves all humanity, restores the glory of Arab and Islamic civilizations that successfully exported science and culture to the world, and instils the spirit of hope and confidence among Arabs to excel. “

Hala further said that by making the mural, Dubai Culture wanted to celebrate the Hope mission “as a wonderful achievement in UAE history that promises to inspire future generations.”
The mural will be placed in the Al Fahidi neighbourhood in old Dubai, due to the district’s importance in the emirate’s history and heritage, and its representation of Emirati identity.
