Dubai Design District (d3) has launched d3 Architecture Festival 2020, in collaboration with the Royal Institute of British Architects Gulf Chapter (RIBA) – Gulf Chapter. The festival’s first edition has been scheduled for 11-13 November 2020 and will be run parallel to Dubai Design Week, which is held under the patronage of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority Chairperson, Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Following the theme “Identity, Context and Placemaking in the Gulf”, the architecture festival has been curated with American University of Sharjah’s Associate Professor in the College of Architecture, Art & Design, Juan Roldan. It will highlight the achievements of architecture firms located in d3, Dubai and the GCC region.
This will be the emirate’s first festival to celebrate regional architecture. It will begin on 11th November with a reception and will include a series of talks on leading the Middle East towards sustainable development. Architects, designers and other guests will be able to take part in daily charrettes during the festival.
Commenting on the upcoming event, Executive Director d3, Khadija Al Bastaki said, “Dubai has long been known as an architectural playground and the emirate’s limitless ambition has found expression in its ever-evolving skyline. As we carry on the process of rebuilding in the post-COVID-19 world, our relationship with the built and natural world has never been more important.
“While offering a platform for critical reflection on social, cultural and economic issues, it will also provide opportunities for new talent and bring the design community together to champion Dubai and the UAE as a hub for knowledge, creativity and innovation.”
