Want hassle-free grocery shopping? Don’t want to stand in long queues to make the payments? Petrified to be in close contact with others? (All thanks to the pandemic). Well, worry no more!! Majid Al Futtaim introduces first of its kind contactless, cashier-free Carrefour city + store at the Mall Of The Emirates. While we thought Artificial Intelligence was a thing only for movies, nay nay!! COVID-19 is ruthlessly shaping the future of grocery stores and supermarkets by deploying AI and significantly enhancing its performance.

The Store Has No Checkout Counters, Zilch Staff Interaction, & Zero Queues

Al Futtaim’s carrefour City+ at the Mall Of The Emirates offers a shopping experience like never before. All you have to do is simply download the MAF Carrefour app, pick up all your grocery items and make the payment via the App as all the products get automatically added in the digital basket. No staff interaction, no queues, and no awkward digging around for coins in wallets and purses required.

Deploying Artificial Intelligence In The Carrefour City+ In Mall Of The Emirates:

The Carrefour city+ is definitely giving to other stores run for their money. Here Is why? The store uses a system of cameras and artificial intelligence (AI) technology to track each customer’s activity, identify the products they choose, and add them to that customer’s digital shopping basket.

The Store Is Equipped With Whooping 97 Cameras:

The World is moving at a fast pace with a digitally enabled economy, UAE is no less when it comes to enhancing the customer’s overall shopping experience especially in the retail space. Nalla Karunanithy, the chief digital officer at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, said Spread over 75sqm of selling area, the store is equipped with 97 cameras. “The camera does two things. First, it tracks every single product through AI. Whenever it looks at the product, it tries to predict the product with 99 percent accuracy. Second, it tracks the motion of a person and identifies the product,” he added.

The Store Will Only Allow 10 Customers At A Time:

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the store is only allowing 10 customers in one go. Since the customer will generate a QR code to enter the store when it is at its full capacity will be notified by the app and asked to wait until another shopper leaves.

The store currently has more than 1,300 items such as snacks, beverages, packaged food, and food-to-go meals, as well as essentials. Currently, the store permits only 10 shoppers at one time, due to Covid-19 restrictions. However, shoppers will also be able to generate a QR code to be notified later on through the app, in case the store is overcrowded. Carrefour City+ is open daily from 9 am to midnight.
