A new sports festival is coming to Dubai this weekend. Dubai Sports Council is organising Beach Sports Week on Kite Beach in Jumeirah. Starting on Thursday, 23rd July, it will comprise several events, held in collaboration with various partners.
The Elite Men’s Beach Volleyball Tournament will be held over three days, in cooperation with Elite Volleyball Academy, and will feature 16 teams, with two players in each team. The first match on Thursday, 23rd July, will be held from 5-7 pm while on Friday and Saturday, matches will be held in the morning (7-9:30 am) and the evening (6-7:30 pm).
A similar tournament, The Esperia Beach Volleyball Tournament, will be organised specially for women. It will be conducted, in collaboration with Esperia Volleyball Academy, on 24th, 25th and 31st July, and on 1st August. The competition will be taking place in three categories, including 2×2 Female, 2×2 Mix and 4×4 Mix. The mix categories will include at least two female players.
A six-team FootVolley tournament, organised with AFC Sports Academy, will be conducted on Friday and Saturday, from 7-9.30am, with matches open to both men and women.
A Beach Tennis tournament, adapted from lawn tennis, will be organised on Friday and Saturday. The rules will be similar to tennis matches but players need to ensure that the ball does not touch the ground.
An AirBadminton tournament will be held in cooperation with the UAE Badminton Federation on 24th and 25h July. Players will be using a special shuttlecock, AirShuttle, which can be used to play in winds of up to 12km per hour.
