Dubai’s tourism and hospitality industries are finally recovering due to a multi-phase approach taken by the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism). According to Director-General Dubai Tourism, Helal Saeed Almarri, Dubai is taking “effective steps under the guidance of the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to build on the strategic initiative to reopen the city to tourists on 7th July.”
Following a good response from the market, the second phase of the tourism recovery strategy is in progress, “which was activated along with the gradual resumption of economic sectors, as well as the staggered and tentative restart of travel across the world,” as per the Director-General.
Hotels in Dubai are offering staycation deals and extending F&B offers to tourists and UAE residents. Jumeirah, one of the emirate’s leading hospitality groups, has reported an increase in interest from visitors in international markets such as Russia and Europe. Online bookings on www.jumeirah.com have doubled as compared to the previous week while Jumeirah hotels have witnessed an average daily increase of 109 percent in booked room nights.
Emirates Airline and Flydubai have also recorded an increase in flight bookings. Emirates is flying to 70 destinations in six continents during August while Flydubai is planning to expand its network to 66 destinations soon.

Al Almarri said that people are “much more optimistic and well informed now” and “ready to go on holidays to destinations that are safe and have put in place strong health and safety protocols.”
CEO Dubai Tourism, Issam Kazmi said it was fortunate that “Dubai has mature tourism, hospitality and retail sectors. Establishments truly understand that maintaining high health and safety standards are critical to the success of their own business as we work to meet the demands of the new norm.”
