Dulhan has, at present, fallen into a repetitive pattern. While it’s understandable that stories need time to build up to that dramatic climax, “Dulhan” has fallen into this pattern for a bulk of episodes. Starring Sami Khan, Sumbal Iqbal, Faizan Khawaja and Mashal Khan in lead roles, the story has been written by Adeel Razzaq and directed by Adeel Siddiqui. Last we saw, Mekaal and Annie’s new marriage began to deteriorate as Annie’s suspicion towards Amal’s accusations grew.
18 also moves at a slow pace. While Amal (Sumbal Iqbal) now struggles with finding work after Mekaal’s mother has placed a workplace “ban” of sorts on her, Shahmeer (Faizan Khawaja) uses this to his advantage. Still actively pursuing Amal, he sends her money through a middle man, which leads Amal to believe it’s from Mekaal. Later, after Amal is disappointed and defeated, Shahmeer approaches her and offers to help her find a job. While in all logical scenarios, Amal would never take any form of help from Shahmeer, this is not a logical, “normal” scenario and desperation can make a person do anything. It’s clear that Amal will, eventually, approach Shahmeer for help, believing that he wants to make amends somehow. But is this Amal’s naivety? It’s clear that Shahmeer still “wants” Amal – but his intentions have never been good, nor does it appear that anything has changed since then. If anything, Amal has become an ego issue for Shahmeer.
Mekaal (Sami Khan) has set a plan in motion to extract his shares from Annie’s (Mashal Khan) father, sensing that things may go downhill with his new wiAfe of only one month. Annie, for her part, has grown widely suspicious of Mekaal and while she has every reason to suspect him, it’s her generally suspicious nature that’s driving a wedge between the two. Mekaal has grown tired of her suspicious nature, while Annie has grown tired of Mekaal’s lies. She grows more suspicious when she spots Mekaal rejecting Amal’s calls and, later, overhears him arguing on the phone. However, Mekaal’s mother is quick to point out that if Annie isn’t happy with Mekaal’s behavior, it will not only be difficult, but impossible for Mekaal to get back his father’s shares. This prompts Mekaal to make a move to try to fix things with Annie. At this point, the audience has to sit back and wonder why Annie even agreed to this marriage in the first place. This couple has not shared even one happy moment since then.
Dulhan Episode 17: Sami Khan’s Mekaal Plots His Escape From Family Pressure
While episode 18 continues to drive home what viewers have already seen in past episodes, most of the episode feels unnecessary, as if it could have skipped directly to the next episode. The only thing of worth to happen are the scenes between Amal and Shahmeer, showing how Shahmeer will once again trap Amal into a situation that will work against her. Still, the performances continue to be good – one just wishes the story would move forward. This could potentially happen next week with Annie visiting Amal.
