Dulhan Episode 19: Mashal Khan Stands Out As the Smart But Possessive Annie

“Dulhan” is a show with a different storyline and talented actors, making it a winner with audiences. Sami Khan, Sumbal Iqbal, Faizan Khawaja and Mashal Khan in lead roles, the story has been written by Adeel Razzaq and directed by Adeel Siddiqui. The lead character, Amal, has found herself caught in an unpleasant situation, married to one cousin (who denies her) while pursued by the other. At present, Mekaal now finds himself juggling his emotions as he tries to pacify Annie for his family’s sake while denying his marriage to Amal.

Episode 19 is an Annie-centric episode. Annie (Mashal Khan) is smarter that Mekaal, or really anyone in that family, gives her credit for. She’s incredibly possessive of Mekaal, to the point of it being borderline obsession. She cannot stand the idea of any woman even spending time with her husband, let alone the idea of him having another wife. And to be perfectly clear, there’s nothing wrong with this mentality, regardless of how “crazy” she appears to be. No woman would (should) tolerate her fiancé/husband sneaking around with another woman behind her back. It’s interesting to see how Annie is handling this entire situation. Instead of hoarding her control over Mekaal, she has gone into self-doubt mode and has taken a step back. She remains at her parents’ home, thinking over her next step and whether she can even trust Mekaal, let alone live her life with him. Up until this point, Annie’s actions are understandable – even though her decision to marry Mekaal was not. Mekaal is aware of Annie’s hesitation and with 100% ulterior motives, he convinces Annie to return home with him, promising to love and care for her. Mekaal, of course, wants his company shares back from her family and is biding time to get them before allowing any further argument to break out. But Annie is not dim, again regardless of what her family thinks of her, and she’s allowing Mekaal to carry out the act, but she’s not buying it. There’s a humorous moment where Annie flat-out labels Mekaal’s behavior as “fake,” catching Mekaal off-guard. As soon as Mekaal leaves for work, Annie dashes out to meet Amal.

Amal (Sumbal Iqbal) is now struggling to make ends meet. Really, she shouldn’t be struggling, because she has done more than enough to provide for her family – but her terrible stepmother (Nida Mumtaz) hides rations to create a sense of urgency. In this sense of urgency, Shahmeer (Faizan Khawaja) offers to help Amal find a job. This entire scenario is bizarre – and not in a good way. Regardless of how desperate Amal would find herself, would approaching Shahmeer ever be her next step? What we know of Amal up until now, we know this is out of character, desperation or not. She would rather call Mekaal for help, her husband, rather than the man who attempted to assault her. But Amal does feel the desperation and asks Shahmeer for help – which he does help, asking his friend to hire her in his company. Shahmeer has his own reasons, but this entire thing seems foolish from both ends – Amal taking a job from Shahmeer and Shahmeer still chasing after Amal in spite of everything that has happened.

Chalawa Episode 13: Noor Khan and Ali Ansari’s Love Story Has a Strange Supernatural Triangle

The episode ends with a confrontation between Annie and Amal. Annie questions Amal about Mekaal, but Amal is no longer interested in playing games or bowing down to this family. She knows her worth – and this riles Annie up. Her possessive side coming out, she makes it clear she won’t tolerate anyone else coming between her and Mekaal. But Amal stops her in her tracks when she confidently declares that Mekaal didn’t love her when he married her and he has already done the same with her. Mashal Khan stands out in this episode. Annie is a kooky sort of character and Mashal does a good job of balancing her irrational side with her intellect. The next episode will certainly be one to watch out for. While this wasn’t a particularly “exciting” episode, it was an entertaining one to watch and has set the stage for an action-packed episode next week. How will Annie take this news?
