Some shows start off at lightning speed, but slowly grow repetitive with simply too many episodes. “Dulhan” has fallen into this path, only recently picking up once again, resuming the exciting pace it once had early on. Starring Sami Khan, Sumbal Iqbal, Faizan Khawaja and Mashal Khan in lead roles, “Dulhan” has been written by Adeel Razzaq and directed by Adeel Siddiqui. Recently, Amal has made the decision to marry Shahmeer, despite being married to Mekaal – a marriage which Mekaal refuses to acknowledge, even to simply divorce her.
In episode 24, Shahmeer (Faizan Khawaja) scrambles to get the money together to “pay” Amal’s mother (Nida Mumaz), the two treating Shahmeer and Amal’s marriage like a business transaction – and Amal recognizing that she’s being sold like cattle. Amal (Sumbal Iqbal) has seemingly resigned herself to this fate, figuring it’s better to be married off and financially benefit her family rather than wait around for a marriage that will never become a reality. Meanwhile, Mekaal (Sami Khan) has divorce papers prepared and delivers them to Annie (Mashal Khan) and her family, making it clear that if he does not receive his father’s money from the business, he will divorce Annie. After leaving Annie and her family in shock, he then arrives at Shahmeer and Amal’s wedding with a gun. He not only has the Nikkah canceled after stating Amal is already married to him, but also takes Amal away at gunpoint when her stepmother refuses to acknowledge the marriage.
This is an exciting episode as Shahmeer (somewhat) is exposed for trying to marry an already married woman in front of his family. In this chaos of Shahmeer chasing Amal has finally been put to rest – at least in any logical way. Shahmeer is a clear villain and will continue pursuing Amal by now blackmailing her family, but now his true face has been revealed in front of his own family. And how long will it take for the full truth to come out about Shahmeer and Mekaal’s arrangement, an arrangement Shahmeer orchestrated? Faizan Khawaja has not been given as much screen time as one would have thought, but he’s been doing a great job in the role and is playing the role of villain well.

The relationship between Mekaal and Amal is a complex one and quite honestly, it’s confusing as to which way one would want this track to go. Sami Khan and Sumbal Iqbal share such wonderful chemistry, it’s difficult to NOT want Amal and Mekaal together. On one end, Amal’s attitude towards the situation at present is infuriating, because she literally hatched a plan to force Mekaal to admit to their marriage – and yet, now that he has taken her with him, she keeps asking to leave and claiming he’s holding her captive. What does she want from life exactly? On the other end, can anyone blame her for hating Mekaal? Mekaal has destroyed her life and, more than Shahmeer, he has been the villain in her life. Are his crimes forgivable? We also can’t forget that he has ruined Annie’s life as well and has lied to her consistently, now using her as a pawn to get his inheritance. Overall, “Dulhan” has been lagging for a while, but has now picked up greatly to the point that viewers can’t wait for the next episode.
