Dunk Episode 14: Amal Asks Minal To Marry Haider

“Dunk” seemed to be taking a turn from being a story about a false harassment allegation to a twisted love triangle; however, with episode 14, the story takes a different turn yet again. The cast of “Dunk” includes Noman Ejaz, Bilal Abbas Khan, Sana Javed, Azekah Daniel, Fahad Sheikh, Shahood Alvi, Saife Hassan and many others. The show has been produced by Fahad Mustafa’s Big Bang Entertainment, directed by Badar Mehmood and written by Mohsin Talat. With Amal and Safeer married, Amal continues to play victim while plotting payback.

Episode 14 reveals Amal’s (Sana Javed) negative plans. Up until now, it’s been unclear what Amal’s intentions are in regards to Haider. Does she simply plan to live in the house and potentially have an affair with Haider (Bilal Abbas Khan) under the family’s nose? While this seemed to be the intention initially, the real intention has now been made clear – revenge. Amal is a complex character and if one looks at her “revenge graph,” we all know how far she can go for revenge. When Haider found himself in trouble in university, she accused Professor Hamayun of sexual harassment as “revenge,” leading to his suicide. This is the very reason Haider refused to marry Amal, realizing the extent of damage she had done on his behalf. But would Amal behave this callously towards her loved ones? Of course! Her next target now is Minal (Azekah Daniel). The bulk of episode 14 focuses on Minal and Haider’s relationship. The two are good friends with Minal also being close to Amal. However, with Minal consoling Haider lately, Amal has found her next scapegoat, her way to get revenge while also keeping her reputation clean.

Amal encourages Minal to marry Haider, stating that he needs her support. However, Minal has never had any such plans or feelings towards Haider. Once again, viewers get an idea in their heads as to where Amal is going with this. Minal’s discomfort is clear and she now takes ten steps back from her friendship with Haider, feeling as though it’s inappropriate now. Was this Amal’s intention? Has Amal been feeling jealousy towards Minal and Haider’s friendship, especially considering Haider no longer speaks to Amal? If that’s the case, then Amal’s plan works. Haider, who has grown isolated, suffers from the lack of a confidant and is overheard by a mutual friend discussing suicide. The friend reports this to Minal and asks her to speak to him. It’s here that Minal may realize there’s some truth to Amal’s words and goes to visit Haider. So did Amal’s plan fail? Not exactly.

While it initially seems as though Amal did this to drive a wedge between the two, the promos for the next episode suggest something else entirely. With Minal and Haider deciding to get married, Amal seems upset for a moment – before squarely placing blame for her canceled marriage to Haider on Minal’s shoulders. The show has taken an interesting turn now with Amal’s sociopathic behavior now rampant, without any doubt in the mind of the audience. Unfortunately for Haider, Amal continues to play innocent and subservient in front of his family, painting him out to be the bad guy – Safeer (Fahad Sheikh), her sweet husband, turning against his brother. Bilal Abbas and Sana Javed both act really well in this episode. It’s also exciting to see that Azekah Daniel will be getting a larger role to play here. Yasra Rizvi has a couple of scenes in which she performs well, but the focus has been taken off that family and placed on the love-revenge angle, which is unfortunate. One can hope the story turns its focus back in that direction soon. Still, the show has taken another interesting turn now with Minal and Haider’s potential wedding. We’ll have to see how this angle shapes up.
