Dunk Episode 3: Noman Ejaz’s Hamayun Is Innocent…..Or Is He?

“Dunk” stars Noman Ejaz, Bilal Abbas Khan, Sana Javed, Azekah Daniel, Fahad Sheikh, Shahood Alvi, Saife Hassan and others in a tale that revolves around sexual harassment allegations. When an allegation of harassment is filed, how does one decide who is to be trusted? What do both sides face during this time? And what happens if an allegation is false? This is the story “Dunk” is attempting to tell. This is a tricky story, because it is one that needs to be handled well. The story has been written by Mohsin Talat and directed by Badar Mehmood.

Episode 3 focuses largely around the consequences of this allegation of harassment in Hamayun’s (Noman Ejaz) life. While his wife stands by his side (Yasra Rizvi), Hamayun is shaken by his daughter’s attitude towards the entire situation. She’s too young to understand what’s happening, but she begins to hear things from her classmates about her father being a “bad man.” Young minds are obviously affected by such things, so she begins to question her father, leaving Hamayun deeply disturbed. However, his wife reassures him that this time will pass and tries to ease his nerves. Yasra Rizvi is doing a wonderful job in this role and it goes without say that Noman Ejaz is playing the visibly nervous and uncomfortable Hamayun brilliantly.

In the first two episodes, Bilal Abbas Khan had little to do as Haider, other than stand in support of Amal (Sana Javed). However, in episode 3, it becomes clear that Haider is more involved in what transpired than what he would have others believe. In fact, regardless of anything else, one thing is clear – Amal and Hamayun ended up in the same room that day because of Haider and his inappropriate messages to another professor (Tara Mehmood). With his inappropriate messages about be filed as a complaint, Haider sent Amal to speak to Professor Hamayun about it. The confusion arises from this point on. Hamayun states that Amal threatened him with sexual harassment allegations if he didn’t drop the idea of filing a complaint. His story also comes across as convincing. However, at the end of the episode, Amal is set to tell her side of the story.

Things seem fairly clear-cut in episode 3, the canvas wiped clean to paint Hamayun as a victim of Amal and Bilal’s planning without any doubt……but wait. Is that true? Episode 4 will show what happened from Amal’s point of view, which will, once again, paint Hamayun in a negative light. “Dunk” has, at this point and heading into episode 4, set the scene for the perfect case of “He Said, She Said.” Professor Hamayun and Amal were alone in Hamayun’s office. There were not any cameras (which does strike one as odd, because most educational institutions do have cameras in private offices) nor any witnesses to see what transpired between the two. And now with allegations of sexual assault filed against Hamayun, who is one to believe? “Dunk” has managed to effectively keep viewers on their toes, confused as to which character is telling the truth. However, like previous projects by this team, will “Dunk” slip and drag later on or will it maintain the pace with engaging and gripping episodes?
