Allegations of harassment are serious and can put one in a messy situation. However, if one has committed such an act, there isn’t any room to argue that the individual is deserving of the bad press. But what if a person is wrongly accused of harassment? This is the story “Dunk” attempts to tell. The cast includes Noman Ejaz, Bilal Abbas Khan, Sana Javed, Azekah Daniel, Fahad Sheikh, Shahood Alvi, Saife Hassan and many others. The show has been produced by Fahad Mustafa’s Big Bang Entertainment, directed by Badar Mehmood (who has directed shows like Cheekh, Balaa and Ishqiya recently) and written by Mohsin Talat.
Episode 6 of “Dunk” sees Professor Hamayun confront Haider (Bilal Abbas Khan), indicating that he’s responsible for the grief his daughter is going through. Haider’s expression make it clear that he’s struck by the weight of these words and, it’s made even more clear that the allegations are false. With Mahnoor (Sana Javed) and Haider’s wedding preparations in full swing, the duo are seen trying to enjoy themselves, but Haider is visibly going through something internally. Through all this, Hamayun, Saira (Yasra Rizvi) and their young daughter, Ghana,are seen struggling under the weight of the accusations placed on Hamayun. While Ghana is isolated in school and teased about her father, Saira is being excluded from private gatherings due to Hamayun’s reputation. Hamayun, of course, feels he’s harming his family and asks his wife and daughter to stay elsewhere until things calm down, mentally making different plans. In the silence of his home, Hamayun begins to prepare, getting his affairs in order and writing out the goodbyes he wishes to leave behind. These scenes are haunting with Noman Ejaz enacting Hamayun’s final moments with a quiet sadness as he prepares to leave his problems behind. It’s haunting. On the other end, Saira begins to feel uncomfortable by the number of calls and texts that have gone unanswered, jolted when she sees (on the news) that Hamayun walked out of a hearing. She dashes over to the house and, with the assistance of a professor attempting to visit, the trio break into the house……and little Ghana discovers her father’s body.
Qayamat Episode 7: Ahsan Khan’s Rashid and Haaris Waheed’s Saad Come Face-To-Face
This is a difficult turn of events to absorb. Suicide in itself is triggering, but suicide over such a matter is even more upsetting. All the complaints and grievances with the show aside, we can all agree that this is a tragedy, whether it happens on-screen or (obviously even more so) if it happens in real life. Episode 6 is a pretty strong episode and leaves an impact. The visuals of Professor Hamayun defeated, lovingly bidding his family goodbye and then, later, found lifeless by his young daughter are images that remain in the mind long after the episode has come to an end. Suicide is a tragedy all around, but when suicide is an action after a false allegation, it is even more disturbing. This episode is effective in making the audience feel deeply for Professor Hamayun’s trauma and even more for what his wife and young daughter endure not only now, but will endure for a long time to come. Noman Ejaz and Yasra Rizvi perform very well. But again, where is the story headed from here? That’s what we will have to see, because at present, it seems like it’s headed into the zone of being a love triangle of sorts between Mahnoor, Haider and Haider’s elder brother (Fahad Sheikh, who is looking great in this role). We will have to wait and see how this show shapes up.
